Although expect the election and the end of the world going to be the most talked about things during that year. Turner was sworn in today (usually in a normal Nov. election they take office on Jan. 1 the next year)as Congressman in Weiner's old seat. At least he didn't need to spend too much money on the campaign compared to his rival. Agreed Concourse. Sadly IMO redistricting every 10 years based on census for districts of congress is the worst form of partisan politics. Instead of your (concourse)idea it based on either of which of the 2 major parties controls the state goverment or who is in the Governor's office at time of redisticting. You also forgot the key detail that the districts must comply with the federal Voting Rights Act, which ensures minority representation. One example of a strange Congressional seat is the 12th Congressional District. Represented by Nydia Velazquez, her district covers heavily Hispanic and Asian neighborhoods in Manhattan (Lower East Side and Chinatown), Queens (Woodhaven, Ridgewood, and Maspeth), and Brooklyn (Sunset Park, Red Hook, Bushwick, Williamsburg, Cypress Hills, and Greenpoint).
