CPBO Posted October 5, 2011 Share #27 Posted October 5, 2011 I have a friend who lives up there, the only downside to Douglaston is that damn red light camera on Northern Blvd and Douglaston Parkway. You just have to watch the don't walk sign.....when it starts flashing be prepared to stop....
Amtrak7 Posted October 5, 2011 Share #28 Posted October 5, 2011 What time is best time for everyone? For me it's my school's winter break, which is just Christmas week. The downside of this is the potential for bad weather and the skewed ridership picture.
lilbluefoxie Posted October 5, 2011 Share #29 Posted October 5, 2011 You just have to watch the don't walk sign.....when it starts flashing be prepared to stop.... true, some of the ones in Nassau county have the timer as well.
Joel Up Front Posted October 6, 2011 Share #30 Posted October 6, 2011 There's a camera at the corner of Lakeview Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard as well, but it's a different model from the ones they use on the state routes.

Ah, you know about that too! Yea, it sucks. I cross Northern every day on Douglaston Pkwy heading north and its so dangerous. There is always some stupid driver turning who almost hits me. qjtransitmaster Posted October 6, 2011 Share #32 Posted October 6, 2011 <---- in DouglastonSometimes, not only one garage, but two or three. And everyone here has a car, hence the reason they canceled the Q79. But living in NYC is great because everything is around you. In Nassau, to get somewhere and you don't have a car, you gotta take the bus far distances. I use LIRR then bus to shorten my trips in LI suffolk transit is usable if you are a visitor but hard if you live there.
checkmatechamp13 Posted October 6, 2011 Share #33 Posted October 6, 2011 amen, buddy. Actually one of the reasons why I would never consider living in NYC except for northeast queens like little neck, douglaston, bayside or country club/throggs neck, Bronx is because of the difficulties in car ownership there, having to deal with stupidity like the no parking rules and such, in Little Neck where I frequent, you can get a house with a driveway and even a garage. How about Staten Island. Most houses out here either have easy on-street parking or a driveway (and many have both). The only problem is if you have more than 2 cars. qjtransitmaster Posted October 6, 2011 Share #34 Posted October 6, 2011 I'm willing to go anywhere. Not really up to taking Suffolk Transit or the Huntington transit since its a trek anyway to get back on the N20 (my only connection home), and the N79 or N19 are farthest out on LIB, but I'll go anywhere on LIB you guys wanna go. How do we plan this out anway? Someone has to keep track of who's coming, what time buses we'll be on, when and where each person is meeting, and on which route? If I were you and wanted to use SCT I would simply use LIRR then get a timed connection with one of the buses there that is how I secret shop suffolk without a car unfortunately I made a wrong turn during my trip forcing me to ride with a stranger couple all the way home back to BK that is when YOU KNOW TRANSIT IS BAD!!!!!!!! I wouldn't want to live there, the traffic is terrible, and the western half of the island smells like garbage. sorry Via G but Staten Island isn't as great as a place as you hype it out to be. My grandparents when they came to America almost moved there but they wound up going to Long Island instead.

That's further south around New Springville, and even there, it's only in certain parts.

Plus travel times to anywhere else in the city are much longer in Staten Island.

Plus travel times to anywhere else in the city are much longer in Staten Island. As Via Garibaldi would say, you can always take an express bus. From my neighborhood, which is around the last stop on the X17, you can get to Lower Manhattan in 30 minutes, and Midtown in 45 minutes (if the X17J is running). If you're by the Verrazanno, it's a 20 minute trip to Manhattan.

Idea: What time everyone is good time for everyone? Right, no LIRR! Well the 31st is a Saturday. So we will riding the Saturday schedule, keep that in mind. Right? Or do you want Friday, for the weekday schedule?
Amtrak7 Posted October 7, 2011 Share #42 Posted October 7, 2011 I'd aim for the 29th or 30th. Weekend schedules are just too restrictive.

User Posted October 7, 2011 Share #44 Posted October 7, 2011 He's right, we'll be able to do more on the weekday. I prefer Friday, the 30th. I can meet whoever on the N20 LTD. Whoever can meet us on that bus, meet us. IF you can meet us on another bus scheduled on our plan later on, and continue from there, that's good too. The more the merrier. Which N20 LTD were you thinking of starting with, Yuki?

I'd rather one draft out a plan then decide on meeting locations.

Amtrak7 Posted October 7, 2011 Share #48 Posted October 7, 2011 I'm working on my version. It starts with the N21. Note that it'll be long due to lots of "bailouts": locations where we could short turn in the event of delays.
