...wish someone pulled the emergency break...

From what I heard, the R160's have a special thing where if someone pulls the emergency brake, a notification light appears inside the T/O's cab and he has the option of stopping the train or not.

So it makes me wonder if someone had actually pulled the emergency brake...

NTT Passenger Emergency Handle Units (NOT emergency brakes) do not engage the emergency brakes on the train unless the train is within station limits.

By rulebook, a conductor observes the platform for 75 feet...not three car lengths, and pulls the emergency brake if he/she sees anyone in distress or someone being dragged. A conductor is NOT required to check the non platform side, or observe the platform beyond 75 feet. Meaning if the train left a station slowly, this guy could have climbed on AFTER 75 feet. He also could have boarded at a curved station making it that much harder for him to be seen (even with monitors). He's still an idiot, and it's really no fault of anyone except himself if he got hurt or killed (and YES it's high time people started telling that to lawyers and the wambulance chasers out there..)
