mark1447 Posted October 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2011 The federal government has agreed to speed up the review and approval process for the planned replacement or renovation for the Tappan Zee Bridge so that work can get under way as soon as 2012, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. "I want to thank President Obama, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, and the U.S. Department of Transportation, including the Federal Highway Administration, for selecting the Tappan Zee Bridge project and recognizing that moving forward with the project is key to New York's economic future," Governor Cuomo said. "This is a shot in the arm for the project and a major step forward to restoring this key piece of our infrastructure and putting tens of thousands of New Yorkers back to work." The Obama administration launched a competition for states to submit high-priority projects that are designed to create jobs in order to win expedited federal approvals. New York submitted an application for its Tappan Zee Bridge project.
