jv10303 Posted November 9, 2011 Share #76 Posted November 9, 2011 Secondly.... If these bus drivers are permanent then they should have anything to worry over. Claim your unemployment, file a civil service lawsuit seeking re-reinstatement with back pay and full benefits and you should be alright. Not to mention you might not even have to do this if you handle the situation correctly. They cannot just lay you off, they have find you a suitable position. It might not be in mineola but hey, you cant always get what you want.
Eric B Posted November 10, 2011 Share #77 Posted November 10, 2011 Just saw this on Ch.7. The service is going to be called "NICE" Nassau InterCounty Express), and a livery is even shown. (Funny, the story doesn't even give the name of the "private company". It says it's replacing "bus service", so this sounds like it's referring to the the whole system takeover, and not a special new line, as the name might make it seem). http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local/long_island&id=8426304
qjtransitmaster Posted November 11, 2011 Share #78 Posted November 11, 2011 That's funny coming from the person who developed a huge list of cuts, bigger than anyone else's and wanted to change numerous LIB and NYCT routes that would confuse and affect more people than what was even predicted. That made this whole thing a joke, and it gets even funnier if it's one bus ever hour. not exactly my nassau list was restructuring lines to strengthen ridership via rerouting some lines transferring segments between routes and a few short extensions to major trip generators to increase ridership on most routes. Well the current riders will have to get used to the changes as they will be affected but new riders would find the new system very convenient. It would structure the system to mimic many travel patterns throughout Nassau. unfortunately the parkways already did damage to the bus system that is beyond anyone's control. Luckily suffolk doesn't have as many parkways that can cripple bus service.

And Veolia doesn't have to hire them, even though they will be.
