It's been announced that all US combat troops will leave Iraq by the end of the year. Your thoughts on this announcement ? I personally think that it's about time to remove our troops from harm's way but I understand there are those political types who are condemning the White House announcement. What say you, pro or con?

I'm sure someone in the Pentagon will make an excuse to keep them there longer past the deadline. It's happened in both wars since 2001.

You might be correct but what justification would a Pentagon military person use to leave our troops in harm's way ? I could see a civilian in the Pentagon trying to make such a case but I would think a military person would want to remove our troops. It's been said that the Iraqi government and people see us as occupiers, not liberators, since the removal of Saddam Hussein and they want us out. As long as Iran doesn't decide to openly threaten our troops before our exit from Iraq I really can see no reason for us to be there any longer. I've read that some GOP presidential candidates oppose our withdrawal but after looking at the big picture I think they don't have a leg to stand on. We're no longer wanted, this isn't Germany- post WWII or Korea- post conflict so let's start packing. If the Shia and Sunni want to fight it out I see no reason to leave Americans in the middle.

IT'S ABOUT TIME. Get them all out, bring them all home, reintegrate them to civilian life, reduce the defense and military spending and let's get to work BUILDING BACK THIS COUNTRY by putting these soldiers to work through a combination of policies designed to limit companies' ability to offshore jobs and penalize them if they do - bring the jobs back and these soldiers can contribute to America's recovery which is far more valuable of a service to their nation than getting attacked and roadside bombed for no reason except some insurgent doesn't like America because he has been told his whole life not to and he sees our troops there...in some sh*t hole we should have never invaded anyway.

We still have more work to do in Afghanistan. Now that we're done in Iraq we can shift more resources to Afghanistan.

To be honest, we have no business being in Afghanistan, either. Osama bin-Laden is dead, the Afghan president recently declared that he would back Pakistan in a potential Pakistani-US conflict, and most importantly, it's a typical Bush-era waste of resources. Many young guys, some only 2-3 years older than me, are dying out there. How can we justify our continuing presence there when our minimum objectives (if we even had any when going into Afghanistan in the first place), such as capturing Osama, have already been achieved? Think, man. THINK.

Based on what Afghanistan's leader said about how they'd support Pakistan if there was a war against the US, I think it's time the troops pull out of that hell hole and come home. Afghanistan should've been over once OBL was killed. There's no point in staying there.

Iraq, I do agree about the withdrawal since that's not our business. But unless the media has stopped covering the violence that's going on there, is it really 'stable'? Seems like bs on the media's part for packing up once Obama became president. If McCain was president now, how much does anyone want to bet any attacks going on in Iraq would be played over and over on their news outlets?
