Subway - What If?

VWM

Recommended Posts

Please be clearer on what you consider as 8 Av next time.

(A) Lefferts Blvd/Far Rockaway to 207 St (Fulton/6 Av/CPW/UWS Local)

(C) No Service

(E) 2 Av to Jamaica Ctr (6 Av Local/Queens Blvd Express)

(M) Metro Av to Chambers St/Broad St (Nassau St Local)

NOTE

(S) Trains are extended via Fulton Express to Utica Av

(7) [sOUTHBOUND SELECT] Trains may turn at 33 St, Woodside, or 111 St

<7> [sOUTHBOUND SELECT] Trains may turn at Willets Pt, Woodside, or 33 St

Will do, and good answer all and all, and i'm assuming by (S) you mean the Rock Park (S)?

Don't think that would ever happen.....

(A) Via Rutgers Street - 6th Avenue Express to 57 Street-6th Avenue.

(B) Suspended.

(C) Via Rutgers Street - 6th Avenue Local to 57 Street-6th Avenue.

(D) No service b/w 42 Street-Bryant Park and 161 Street.

(E) Via 53 Street - 6th Avenue Local to Lower East Side-2 Avenue.

(M) Select trains terminate at Broad Street.

I'm not going to answer the (7), because I don't get why..........

Better do something about the (F), and also, because it effects the (A) so severely, and the (7) tunnel goes underneath the (A) IIRC, imagine the construction site flooded, or it got destroyed, and the rubble piled near the (7) tracks, and they need to clean it up.

Due to a horrific accident at 42nd St-PABT just after 5AM, the entire 8th Ave Line is unusable. Also, the (7) terminal can only handle 18TPH.

(A) runs in two sections:

Far Rockaway-34th Street/Penn Station

59th Street-207th Street (local from 145th-168th Street)

(B) runs via the Broadway line from 57th Street/7th Avenue-DeKalb Avenue, then regular route.

(C) replaces the (A) from Lefferts Boulevard-Euclid Avenue and then runs regular route to Chambers Street, where it terminates (select (C) trains continue via the express track to 34th Street)

(Note: Spring Street and 23rd Street on the 8th Avenue line are CLOSED on the uptown side, there is VERY limited service at these stations on the downtown side)

(E) is suspended (see (R) below). The Chambers Street terminal platform is CLOSED (other platform remains open).

(F) is unaffected

(G) is extended to 179th Street and can run EITHER Local OR Express after 71st-Continental based on needs.

(M) runs regular service to 47th/50th Street, then runs via the (B) to Columbus Circle and replaces the (B) and (C) to 145th Street or Bedford Park Boulevard

(R) is extended to Jamaica Center and runs express 71st-Continental-Jamaica Center with some service to/from 179th Street (cars are borrowed from the (E) for the extra service).

Some (7) trains terminate at Grand Central to accommodate the reduced capacity at Times Square.

NEXT: It's January and snow has blocked the WPR line from 241st to E. Tremont Avenue. The structure is unsafe and trains cannot run on the line for months. Also E. 180th Street yard and 239th Street yard are blocked. It's night so trains can't come out in the morning nor can trains come back to the yard. Reroute the (2) and (5) and provide solutions. Those 760 subway cars at both yards cannot be used.

Might have to borrow sets from the (1)(3)(4) and (6) to make up deficiencies, but Assuming you can use the tracks/switches south of 180:

(2) Flatbush to West Farms Square

(5) would alternate to 3rd/149 or Burnside to Bowling Green, via Lexington Local.

(6) operates normally to Bowling Green via Lexington Local;

all-day <6> service will continue to Flatbush and serve Lexington Express.

Late Nights

(2) Will operate West Farms to Flatbush; change at GC/149 for (4) Service

(3) Operates to New Lots at all times

(4) Will alternate late night service between New Lots and Flatbush.

(5) will not operate

Increased service for BXM 4, 6, 10, and 11 for service into Manhattan.

Shuttle service between 149GC and the respective Bronx termini.

(2) To Harlem-148th St (With layups going to New Lots)

(3) Suspended (This will give the (2) enough cars)

(4) Runs local between Franklin Ave, and New Lots Ave ALL TIMES (Select trains to Flatbush)

(5) To Freeman St

(S) Suspended (To provide extra trains to the (4))

ALL IRT TRAINS GET REDUCED BY 5TPH (To provide service for the (5))

The (2) would be out of Liviona, along with a very minute part of the (4)

The (5) would be stored on the express track south of Freeman St, and would be serviced out of Jerome.

Utica Avenue-Borough Hall (all times, except overnights)

During this time, (N), (Q) and (R) trains all operate at ALL TIMES via Broadway Local south of 14th Street and the tunnel to accommodate riders affected by the shutdown.

(J) service is also extended to 9th Avenue, Brooklyn to accommodate affected riders.

There is also a special OOS transfer available between the Prince Street (R) station and the Broadway-Lafayette (B)(D)(F)(M) station during this time.

I will make another problem on this thread:

A brawl occured near 42nd Street - Port Authority Bus Terminal station at 6 PM, and one of the brawlers was killed, and it led to a police investigation. Reroute the (A)(C)(E).

I'll simply repost what I did from a previous similar situation for this one:

(A) runs in two sections:

Far Rockaway-34th Street/Penn Station

59th Street-207th Street (local from 145th-168th Street)

(B) runs via the Broadway line from 57th Street/7th Avenue-DeKalb Avenue, then regular route.

Due to an unforeseeable situation, trains can run through the Coney Island station (and stop there as normal), but CAN NOT use it as a terminal. This affects the (D)(F)(N)(Q).

Running trains through Coney Island would cause a lot of delays due to the track layout. It's designed as a terminal, not a thru station.

(D) terminates at Bay 50th Street

(F)(Q) terminates at West 8th Street

(N) terminates at 86th Street

(N)(Q) Trains run through and exchange with each other (e.g. (N) becomes (Q) and vice versa). This was done in 2006 and the track layout is perfect for this, using Tracks 1 and 4 only.

(D) Trains run in two sections: 205 St to Bay 50 St and Bay 50 St to Coney Island, as a single track shuttle. (see (F) below)

(F) Trains run in two sections: 179 St to Av X and Av X to Coney Island, as a single track shuttle. At Coney Island, this train will be re-signed as a (D) and continue to Bay 50 St.

(D) trains run normal route to Coney Island, (F platform) but back to Manhattan via Culver

(F) trains run normal to Coney Island, but back to Manhattan via West End and 4th Avenue Express.

(N) trains run normal to Coney Island but back via Brighton Local.

(Q) trains run normal to Coney Island but back via Sea Beach and 4th Avenue Express.

I will make another problem on this thread:

A brawl occured near 42nd Street Complex at 6 PM, and one of the brawlers was killed, and it led to a police investigation. Reroute the (1)(2)(3)(7)<7>(A)(C)(E)(N)(Q)(R)(S) .

Simple, everything just bypasses the station. The (S) is suspended and the (7) terminates at Grand Central

Got one based off of what happened yesterday...

Loss of power along the (A)(C) from Chambers St to Broadway Junction. Its the middle of rush hour and what do you do?

Note...Broadway Junction has power and so does World Trade Center

Manhattan-bound (A)(C) trains terminate at Broadway Junction.

Brooklyn-bound (A)(C) trains terminate at Chambers Street, World Trade Center (regular route), Lower East Side-2 Avenue or Church Avenue (via Rutgers Street, Culver Express/Local)

---Solution A, realistic---

(A) Trains run in two sections:

207 St to Chambers St A/C platform and B'way Junction to Queens, both via local. Additional trains also operate between 207 St and 34 St, via express.

(C) Suspended

---Solution B, creative---

(A) Trains run in two sections:

207 St to Chambers St A/C platform and B'way Junction to Queens, via local.

(C) After West 4 St, trains run via the M and J to B'way Junction, nonstop. This is announced to customers as "The next stop is B'way Junction. Take this train for stations beyond B'way Junction."

This is assuming the (C) is R-32s and eight cars and the (F) and (G) are also affected by this (since they have same platform stops with the 8th Avenue/Fulton Street line at Jay Street-Metrotech and Hoyt-Schermerhorn respectively):

(A) runs in two sections:

207th Street-Chambers Street (mainly terminating on the (A) / (C) platform though some terminate on the (E) platform)

Broadway Junction and Lefferts Boulevard OR Far Rockaway (alternating trains)

Rockaway Park (S) extended to Broadway Junction.

(C) runs via the (M) and then (J) West 4th Street-Broadway Junction (J) platform. Passengers looking for Broadway Junction and points east in Brooklyn are asked to take the (C) to the Broadway Junction (J) station (or (L) to Broadway Junction if at 14th Street) and change there for the (A) or (S).

(F) runs in two sections:

179th Street-York Street, Brooklyn

Bergen Street-Coney Island

(G) runs Court Square-Bedford Nostrand Avenue with VERY Limited service to Fulton Street, Clinton-Washington and Classon Avenue stations

(M) is re-routed via the Nassau Street Line in Manhattan and via the Montauge Street tunnel, running to 9th Avenue in Brooklyn.

During this time, (N) trains are re-routed via the Montauge Street tunnel.

Passengers from Manhattan looking for Jay Street-Metrotech are asked to take the M/N/R there.

Passengers looking for (F) stations from Bergen Street and points south are asked to take the M/R to 9th Street and change there for the (F) (4th Avenue Station).

Shuttle buses in Brooklyn operate as follows:

High Street-Brooklyn Bridge to Broadway Junction (A shuttle bus)

Bedford-Nostrand to York Street (F/G shuttle bus), also stopping at Bergen Street and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center.

Those are some drastic police investigations:

(A) Trains run via the (F) between Jay St and 34 St, then via the (D) to 59 St. Trains stop at 155 and 163 St.

(C) No trains between 168 St and High St.

(E) Two service patterns operate:

  • Jamaica Center to 34 St/Penn Station
  • Jamaica Center to 57 St/7 Av via 63 St

(F) Trains run via 53 St in both directions.

(J) No trains between Essex St and Kosciuszko St.

(M) No trains between 57 St/6 Av and Central Av. Trains run via 63 St.

The Joralemon St tunnels are impassable. Trains may use the crossover at Borough Hall and the loop at Bowling Green.
