Here's one: All switches in the MTA are Straight, this affects all lines, and make your custom changes.

Shut down the entire system (except maybe the Grand Central shuttle which wouldn't have any raison d'être at that point, would only inconvenience) and replace it with buses until the switches have been fixed; capacity of the subway would be too low.

Now for something more sensible; the 60th St Tunnel (N)(Q)(R) and the 53rd St Tunnel (E)(M) both go down. Reroute the (E)(M)(N)(Q)(R)

(N)(Q)(R) terminate at 57 St-7 Av & Lexington Ave Northbound, southbound from Astoria/71 Av to 57 St-7 Ave suspended. (E)(M) via (F) (i know this will cause major delays but its the only way to get to the QBL).

Now for something more sensible; the 60th St Tunnel N/Q/R and the 53rd St Tunnel E/M both go down. Reroute the E/M/N/Q/R

This assumes the Montauge tunnel is back to normal:

(E) runs with the (F) via 63rd Street and 6th Avenue from Roosevelt, Queens to West 4th Street, Manhattan.

(G) is extended to 71st-Continental, replacing the (M) and (R) in Queens. For 23rd Street-Court Square from points east, transfer to (G) from the (E) or (F).

(M) runs via 8th Avenue after Broadway-Lafayette (replacing the (E) West 4th-50th Street) and then runs via the (C) to 168th Street.

For 7th Avenue-53rd Street, from Brooklyn/Lower Manhattan transfer to (B) or (D) at Broadway-Lafayette or West 4th Street.

Single track shuttles operate on both (E) line tracks in both directions from 50th Street-8th Avenue to 53rd Street-Lexington Avenue due to the crossover tracks in the 53rd Street tunnel being unusable. At 50th Street, please ask for a BLOCK transfer if riding in the opposite direction of which track the shuttle train is operating on in order to exit and re-enter on the opposite platform at 50th Street.

If you normally transfer from the Lexington line to any of the affected lines above, please take the (6) to Bleecker Street to transfer if possible.

(N) runs in two sections:

Ditmars-Astoria to Queensboro Plaza

60th Street-Lexington Avenue to Coney Island via Tunnel

(R) runs 60th Street-Lexington Avenue to Coney Island

(Q) runs 57th Street to Coney Island

(N): No service between 57th Street-7th Avenue and Queensboro Plaza. (Trains run via tunnel)

(Q): No service between Lexington Avenue-53rd Street and Astoria.

(R): Via Bridge, 6th Avenue and 63rd Street.

(E): No service between Court Square and WTC.

(M): Via 63rd Street.

Another hurricane problem again:

Hurricane Andrea made landfall as a tropical storm in New York City, affecting the whole IRT White Plains Road Line. Reroute the (2) . Plus, the entire Brooklyn Bridge complex is flooded with water reaching the stairs. Reroute the (4)(5)(6)<6>(J)(Z) .

(2) runs from Flatbush to 148 St, (4) suspended between Utica Avenue and Grand Central, (5) running between Flatbush and Bowling Green, (6)<6> suspended between 86 St and Brooklyn Bridge. (J)(Z) suspended between Essex St and Broad Street.

How about something now scheduled to actually occur. The new FASTRACK shutdowns, expanding to a couple of patterns never normally seen:

http://mta.info/mta/..._2013 Plans.pdf

Broadway:

(N) CI- Court St. Ditmars-QBP

(Q) via 6th Av to 57/6 or via 53rd to QBP

(R) (Same, shuttle)

Queens Blvd

(E) Parsons-Roosevelt only (nowhere to turn WTC trains at 5th Ave; if it was n/o Lex, then they could turn there).

(F) 179-Roosevelt; 21st St-CI

One Week Fastrack:

(A) 207-168 (could terminate on A3 {where it currently passes through southbound}, relay south of the station, then enter on A1 {where the (C) starts}, then cross all the way back over to A4 north of the station). Else, would have to terminate at 175th.

59th-Lefferts, etc.

(B) Hope they don't just suspend it (if this is really 24/7. If not, and regular service runs rush hourse at least, then they probably will just suspend it). Don't see where else to turn it. Perhaps replace with <Q> (to 57th, relocate any layups on the exp. tracks).

(C) Also, hope they don't just suspend this altogether. Maybe just use the spur north of Chambers, or keep on the exp. tracks and use the spur south of 34th. But both may interfere with the (A).

(D) 205-161; 59- CI.

The (G) replacing BOTH the (M) and (R)? Stop foaming dude...

Going to do this again with some modifications:

Now for something more sensible; the 60th St Tunnel N/Q/R and the 53rd St Tunnel E/M both go down. Reroute the E/M/N/Q/R

This (again) assumes the Montauge tunnel is back to normal:

Most (E) trains run with the (F) via 63rd Street and 6th Avenue from 36th Street, Queens to West 4th Street, Manhattan, running local between 36th Street and 71st-Continental.

Select (E) trains run local from 71st/Continental-Queens Plaza, then via the (G) between Queens Plaza and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets, Brooklyn (turning on the lower level of the Bergen Street (F) station in Brooklyn). LIMITED (E) service runs from the regular (E) platform at Court Square to Jamaica Center.

(G) is extended to 71st-Continental, along with the (E) running local replacing the (M) and (R) in Queens.

(M) runs via 8th Avenue after Broadway-Lafayette, replacing the (E) from West 4th-50th Street, then continuing via the (C) to 168th Street.

(N) trains run in two sections: Astoria to QBPlaza and Lexington Avenue-60th to Coney Island (via tunnel)

(Q) trains run from 57th-7th Avenue

(R) trains run via Bridge, 6th Avenue Express, 63rd Street.

(M) trains run via 63rd Street
