Subway - What If?

VWM

Recommended Posts

Heres a good scenario: Due to the ongoing Fix and Fortify program the Cranberry Street tubes on the A and C are shut down completely for the next 12 months. On top of that the Manhattan Bridge is closed on weekends on the south side of the bridge due to planned GOs due to signal upgrades (BMT Broadway Line) . The Chrystie Street connection to the IND 6th Avenue Line however stays open. How should we provide alternate service on all lines affected by the shutdown?

(A) runs normal route BUT via Rutgers between W4 and Jay.

(C) runs in two sections: Jay - Euclid, WTC - 168th Street. Late nights and weekends Jay - Euclid service terminated and (A) runs local in Brooklyn.

(N) runs via tunnel from Atlantic to Canal Street

(Q) in two sections from Prospect Park - Coney Island, Canal St - 57th Street

Easy peasy.

It's a broken rail extravaganza!

A rash of broken rails all at once have hit the following areas:

Queens Plaza AND 71st-Continental on the Queens Boulevard Line
Atlantic-Barclays on the 4th Avenue Line
Near 145th Street on the 8th Avenue Line (affecting both levels there)
Delancey Street on the Rutgers Line

Due to all of this, it was decided that ALL rails in the immediate areas of the broken rails have to be inspected thoroughly and replaced if necessary.  It will take 7-10 days to complete these inspections and repairs/replacements.

Anywho...due to a power outage between W4 upper level and Canal in both directions, there's no through service around the aforementioned area.

In addition, due to a switch problem at 5 Av-53 St, there's also no direct service to/from 6th Avenue.

Reroute or suspend the (A)(C)(E)(M).

Your proposal is overall good, except that the (A) would miss the (L) connection (first one that's located in Manhattan that is) at 14 St-6 Av. No point in running it via the 6th Ave express.

I'll say this affects BOTH levels of West 4th Street since I can't see how one level being out can't affect the other.

(A) runs in two sections:

207th Street-34th Street (all local stops south of 168th) with LIMITED (every 30 minutes) service to 14th Street-8th Avenue (skipping 23rd Street, which is closed on such trains).

Chambers Street (A) platform-Leffers Boulevard or Far Rockaway (express in Brooklyn)

(B) runs via the Broadway Line between DeKalb Avenue and 57th Street-7th Avenue, where it terminates

(C) runs from the Delancey Street (F) station-Euclid Avenue with LIMITED (every 30 minutes) service starting at the 2nd Avenue (F) station (replacing the (F) between 2nd Avenue/Delancey and Jay Street-Metrotech, transfer to the (F) or (G) at Hoyt-Schermerhorn).

(D) runs in two sections:

205th Street, Bronx to 34th Street, Manhattan

Broadway-Lafayette Street, Manhattan and Coney Island, Brooklyn

(E) runs Jamaica Center-34th Street with LIMITED (every 30 minutes) service to 14th Street-8th Avenue (skipping 23rd Street, which is closed on such trains).

Alternating (F) trains run as follows:

179th Street and 34th Street-6th Avenue via regular route

Via the Crosstown between Roosevelt Boulevard and Bergen Street

Transfer to the (C) at Hoyt-Schermerhorn for Jay Street, York Street, East Broadway, and Delancey Street (or 2nd Avenue).

(G) replaces the (M) between Court Square and 71st-Continental (extended from Court Square during hours the (M) normally operates)

(M) runs to Broad Street with the (J) and terminates there.

(N) runs via the Montauge Street tunnel between Canal Street and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center.

Alright, a suspicious backpack was found in the morning rush hour in front of the New York Stock Exchange. Because of that, the area south of Fulton Street is restricted. This causes service changes for the (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(J)(R) and (Z) lines, as well as the Staten Island Ferry. It's up to you how these service changes look like.
