Lets see how you guys do with this one.

Pre-holiday, right in the heart of rush hour:

A train is disabled in Dekalb crossing from A3 to F1 Southbound, that's the (Q) trains regular platform to 4th Ave Local line for those of you who don't have the track numbers.

(B) service is suspended. Excess (B) trains turn at 2nd Ave or Prospect Park.

(Q) service runs from 96th Street to Prospect Park via Broadway Express, 4th Ave Express, the Sea Beach Line, and the Brighton Line. (Not all trains would come back from Prospect Park to 96th Street)

(W) service runs from Canal Street to Astoria / Ditmars Blvd.

(D)(N) trains run local south of Atlantic Ave / Barclays Center.

(R) trains run in two sections: Forest Hills to Whitehall Street, and 36th Street to Bay Ridge / 95th Street.

The (Q) does NOT go to the local track, it goes to what is the "express" track (at DeKalb the outermost track) as the inner "local" tracks are only accessible from the tunnel.  With that in mind:

(B) is truncated to West 4th Street with select trains southbound ending at and starting back northbound from 34th Street.

(D) and (R) are unaffected by this.

(N) and (Q) temporarily swap line routes in Brooklyn with the (N) operating via Brighton and the (Q) via Sea Beach.  (N) also operates via the tunnel while the (Q) skips DeKalb.

If capacity permits, the (J) and (Z) are extended to Brighton Beach (running express Prospect Park-Brighton Beach) to replace (B) service in Brooklyn, operating via Montague.

I doubt (MTA) would do that

how would NYC Subways look like now, if 9/11 never happened?

Probably close to what we have now except we would likely NOT have the lower level of South Ferry and the re-built Fulton Transit Center.

Anyway, getting this back to what it's supposed to be:

A sinkhole develops next to Trinity Place, causing damage to the Rector Street station on the (R)(W) and requiring it to be taken out of service for three months with no trains able to pass through it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I wonder if there will be a Lexington Avenue switch replacement project in the future similar to the 7th Av one that's happening this weekend. I also wonder what the service pattern would be like;

(4) Woodlawn - 149th St/Grand Concourse

(5) Dyre Av - South Ferry via 7th Avenue

(6) Pelham Bay Park - 3rd Avenue

(3) operates all night to New Lots Av

(M) Metropolitan Avenue to 96th St, nights and weekends.

Extra M101, M102 and M103 service.

(J) extended to Prospect Park

Thoughts?

I think that sounds about right. Not sure about the extra buses (unless they are short-turn) and the (J). Maybe even a weekend (W)

What if a small meteorite size of a soccer strikes 30th Avenue Station in Astoria?

Assuming permanent damage (a few weeks):

Shuttle buses between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria-Ditmars, with a stop at Court Sq.

(N) Trains run to 96th St, with some terminating at 59th St-Lex at peak times, local in Manhattan.

(W) Trains suspended
