Sorry, I don't know the exact number. Only information they give over the phone that is the last list number hired which was 3,137. However, I'm list number 3,40x and already took my laboratory for HR and I'm currently awaiting a call back for my full medical. I hope that information helps.

Thanks my friend is 37-- and he is waiting and waiting

Thanks, everyone, for the updates on how the list is progressing.

@HopefulTO, I'm in the 37xx range myself, and the suspense is horrible.  I took the exam 5 1/2 years ago and now I'm checking the mail everyday, waiting for the letter that tells me to come to Brooklyn for my initial drug test and get this process started already.

I will keep the group posted when I get that letter and when/if I get called for the full medical and admitted to school car.

Hi guys:

I just spoke with an HR representative today and they informed me the last number appointed for hire was 3,316. That doesn't account for where they're with contacting individuals for full medical but my list number is 3,40x and I'm still waiting for the follow-up call to take my full medical.

FYI, this 3,316 last appointed for hire was just 3,137 as of Friday November 14th. So just be patient guys as I am myself, hoping for the best.

Hi guys:

Here's a follow up to the update I posted yesterday. I spoke with Michelle Vargas of Human Resources and she informed me that the December 1st class is already filled with 30 candidates. She asked me to check back with her towards the middle/end of December to find out when the next class will be available. As of today the last appointed is 3,318 and that will remain the same until the next class becomes available. If the next class is available after 90 days from my October 22 laboratory (urine test), I will have to take the laboratory again. I hope that's not the case not because I won't pass but I just wanna hurry up and complete the physical without beginning the process over. That's all I have for now. If anybody hears word of the next class in 2015 please share this information. Thanks in advance.

I suggest very very very very very very very very very strongly that everyone who is waiting for their number to be called to change your diet NOW!! and cut out all sugars, starches and stick to meats, eggs, cheese and vegetables, limit your fruit. You will lose weight, lower your blood pressure and most importantly, keep your blood sugar stable and not in a high enough range for you to have problems with the MAC when you go for your drug test, they check to see if your urine has high sugar in it as well as just for drugs or alcohol, and if your sugar is high, you will be held back and create problems for yourself. I am serious, go on the Paleo diet, you will be grateful you did.

@loydmike, thanks for the detailed info re hiring and list movement.  Here's hoping you can get your full medical done in December and start in January's class, so you don't have to re-do the drug screen.

@Andrew, thanks for the diet tips.  Diabetes is a huge concern in the general population (and for the MTA as our potential employer, more importantly) and I didn't realize they're testing blood sugar as well as drugs.

My hope is that hiring just keeps chugging along with classes going forward each month.

Do any of the veteran train operators have any sense of how many more train operators the MTA will need to hire next year (2015)?

I know there's guesswork involved and anything can happen that changes the calculations - I appreciate any insight people may have.

I was called on JUNE 19 2008. Because of medical issues and test after test after test, and getting my number reinstated 3 separate times, I was not cleared by medical until DEC 4 2009. NOBODY wants to go through what I did, I was persistent to the 9th degree and that is what got me here, but it was hell to go through and had I known how tough it was going to be, I would have done things differently. ANYONE who is waiting on the list and who reads this, STOP eating SUGAR and SALT NOW!!!!! I don't care if its Thanksgiving and you were looking forward  to that big turkey meal, all of the stuffing, bread and desserts, DONT EAT IT!! The object is to PASS your medical the FIRST TIME. 88out of every 100 people who go to the MAC for the new employment medical FAIL the first time!!!!! Thats right 88%!!!! Some are able to pass future medicals, others don't. The MTA has one of the STRICTEST medicals around and they will not let you in the door if you have blood sugar, blood pressure or EKG problems, as well as other things that can jam you up.

Even when you go to school car, graduate, become a professional T/O pass your probation, you must Maintain good health, or end up being medically restricted which in turn means in some cases NO WORK...NO WORK=NO PAY!!!!!!

I simply cannot stress this enough, make sacrifices with your diet, it will go a looooooooooooooong way into ensuring you have a good medical.

Hiring is still going on at a rapid rate. They are more short in the A Division right now than the B, but there are quite a few classes slated to come out in the A in the coming months.

As for the B, classes are still coming out for the next couple months at least. They may be heavy on the B side at the moment, but that's in anticipation of all the retirements around the New Year since many employees retire around that time (they get next year's vacation as terminal leave when they do, which helps offset the pain of waiting for the first pension check). You are already seeing a few retirements on the B side the past few weeks, but it's just a trickle compared to what always occurs between December and February. A Division will likely have a similar exodus, and the reinforcements will be coming in around the time that it picks up.

Hiring will continue at these elevated levels until at least after the winter exodus, then they will likely re-evaluate based on retirements what the personnel needs are.

I just went in today with all my document to clear my medical hold. Everything is good now that I have no hold anymore. Had to go to 1 Centre Street in Manhattan to get my list number reinstated for the next class since Dec 1 is full. I was told that there are no future dates for the next available class yet, but there will be more. I was told that I would be receiving a letter or a call letting me know when that next class will be available. Medically I'm good now, just need to wait for the next class. I'll keep everyone posted once I receive news on the next class.

That's great news Breaker03. Congrats on clearing your medical hold. I know that's a big weight off your chest. Please keep up posted on any updates you receive about the class. Hopefully your wait is boo longer than early to mid January.

*correction* Hopefully your wait is no longer than early to mid January.

Hi MTAhopefulMatt:

Outstanding Certification: Your name has been requested by the respective agency for potential hire.

Not Outstanding Certification: Your name was either send back to DCAS because they didn't reach you during your Outstanding Certification period or you never were classified under Outstanding Certification status to begin with.

Once MTA gets the number they need for potential hire (next training class) they'll will inform DCAS again and then you'll return to Outstanding Certification status.

Thanks, Mike, for the quick and detailed response.

Is there a number I should call to determine if the MTA had tried to reach me before?

I'm worried that mail may not have gone to the right address.

I'd be happy to go to DCAS or Transit to pick up the drug test letter when they're ready for me.

Hey Matt,

If you haven't been contacted yet you could contact DCAS at 212-669-1357 but they'll inform you that you need wait until contacted via mail. Once you receive a letter from MTA to visit their office to take the drug screening that's when your process will officially begin. All you can do now is wait until contacted via mail either DCAS or MTA. I believe the latter will contact you first though.

hey guys, question

i had recieved a DUI in Aug 2010 in front of my house (stupid mistake) i took the Bus exam,Conductor, and train OP..i rcvd a letter for the Bus exam i took..did everything they asked me to even the drug test..i rcvd a callback telling me i have to re-list my name back in AUG 2015 due to my DUI..so im guessing it takes 5 years to clear a DUI?

i took the train op and rcvd a list# 413x and would like to know if i stand any chance of becomming a train OP?..my brother is a train Conducter as we speak and it would be nice to join him..i know i would not get a call back for conductor because of my score of 90,66 list#65xx but it seems i might stand a chance with the train OP

thanks guys

After attempting to fax over my receipt from the Certification Unit I was given to remove the hold since the 21st, I finally spoke to the Employment Specialist @ 180 Livingston. She told me that she should be getting the new class date for 2015 within the next two weeks or before Xmas at best. For those who are waiting for the scheduled date for the next class, letters will be sent out. Do not expect a phone call!

If anyone is having trouble faxing the receipt (like me), you can scan it and send it via email. She will send a confirmation of receipt back to you. Her email is as follows: emma.rivera@nyct.com

Have a great Holiday and see ya in class next year!

@BDiv238, I do know that the list is set to expire in Sept. 2016, which is roughly 21 months from now.  They've hired through list #3316.  I'm thinking it's possible you're called before the list expires, as long as there are no hiring freezes for train operators in the meantime.  What do others think?

@Breaker, I spoke to Ms. Rivera yesterday as well.  She's very nice and quite helpful.  I'd recommend anyone call her if you want to hear about the status of hiring from the official source, or need to update your info - updated mailing address is critical, and you want to make sure both DCAS and NYC Transit have your current mailing address.  She confirmed that everything is on hold until the next class is scheduled.  Once that occurs, letters will start to go out again for the initial drug test.
