i will gladly do it again from best to least:

1. R32

2. all R160s (do not care about propulsion or anything)

3. R143

4. R62

5. R62A (rank them lower because they tend to be dirtier and no side signs)

6. R68A

7. R68 (lower than R68As because they are slower and dirtier)

8. R142/142A

9. R46

10. R40 slant

11. R40M

12. R42

13. R44

if the R38s are still in service, i would rank them between the R40M and R42.

Of the current IND/BMT cars, the recent R-38 retirement notwithstanding, it would be:

1)R-38

2)R-32

3)R-40 Slant

4)R-42

5)R-40M

Of the retired IND/BMT cars, it would be:

1)R-10 (Greenbird)

2)R-1 thru R-9

3)R-11 (Pre-rebuild)

4)R-16 (Redbird)

5)R-27/R-30[A] (Redbird)

I'm doing this b/c I'm bored.

1. R44 (Grew up with them and one of the most comfortable)

2. R38 (Rated way above the other bench seaters b/c they never break down nor have any faulty components)

3. R68A (Quieter that the R68 in propulsion)

4. R68 (Just Fine)

5. R160A (Quietest/Smoothest of the NTTs)

6. R46 (Poor Suspension)

7. R160B (Kind of loud for a NTT)

8. R143 (A little louder than R160B)

9. R40/M (Best A/C of 60' SMEEs)

10. R42 (Incredibly loud, shaky, and faulty)

11. R32 (Don't ask me b/c you don't want to know)

Both the R44 and R38 gave me the least trouble. Bucket seats FTW:cool:.

I am clueless as to how you rank the R42 and R38 above the R32:eek:

Aesthetics don't please me, but performance does. In the past I had been stranded with my family at Penn Station b/c we couldn't catch the last train back to NJ. They were all b/c either an R32 broke down, or the doors were all stuck at 34th St. I can't stand them for life! Also what's wrong with the R38s? The R38s have a far superior MDBF than the R32 and their brakes don't screech. Besides, the R38s rarely break down at all.

it is just his opinion. he cares about more about performance than looks just like how i care about the opposite. people have their own preference. i like the R32s and R160s because they are sleek and shiny while i hate the R42s/R44s because they are rusted and ugly.

The R160A are my favorite cars. They are awesome. I was impressed when I first rode them on the (A). They work best on the (N)(Q)(W) lines. They have the same propulsion sound as the R142.
They are certainly my favorite among the NTTs for quietness, but their FIND systems are really hurting their reputations. The R160As are actually more dominant on the QBL instead of Broadway and I think that it's better if the QBL should stay quieter with the R160As after the era of R32s and briefly with the R40Ms/R42s.
