Joe Namath & Other Celebs Get Word Out About New LIRR-MNR Smoking Ban

An all-star lineup of local celebrities is pitching in to help the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North get the word out about the new state smoking ban on outdoor station platforms as well as ticketing and boarding areas that is going into effect on Sunday, November 13.

 

Volunteering their time and their voices will be New York Jets Super Bowl hero Joe Namath, New York Ranger Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert, former New York Yankee pitching ace Tommy John, WFAN sports commentator Ann Liguori, Long Island native and former Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Fiedler, Pro-Football Hall of Famer Elvin Bethea, James Lipton, host of TV's "Inside the Actors Studio," Daily News columnist Mike Lupica, Juliet Papa of 1010 WINS Radio News, actress Lori Singer, journalist Ken Auletta of The New Yorker magazine and Countess LuAnn de Lesseps of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of New York City."

I support this ban, but how much of our fare $$$ is paying for all these celebrity ads? (and the gap ones)

They volunteered to do these PSAs. Volunteers generally don't get paid. If you're talking about the cost of programming the PA systems, that's probably negligible since it's not like they're hiring new programmers for this.
