Harry 1,090 Posted June 19, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2008 Your favorite current IRT subway car. Not much of a choice but it should be interesting to see.
DOB2RTO 29 Posted June 19, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2008 Even though the R142As are bucking broncos when accelerating, they are smooth when they get going. The same goes for the R142, but the propulsion of the R142A rules. The R62 and R62As are the old workhorses of the IRT, but I like brighter, newer trains........ R1Toasty 0 Posted June 19, 2008 Share #3 Posted June 19, 2008 Gotta go with R142A on this one. Great sounding propulsion, nice bright clean interior, etc.
metsfan 2 Posted June 19, 2008 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2008 I love the R62's. They have that "classic subway" look, feel and sound to them. Every time i ride the or the i hope it's an R62. - Andy

trainfan22 2,233 Posted June 19, 2008 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2008 I voted the R62 the best and fastest cars in the A div. And have been known to go from woodlawn to utica in an hour. And they have cool brake sounds.

R32 3348 11 Posted June 19, 2008 Share #11 Posted June 19, 2008 R142As are the most modern and aesthetically pleasing car running on the IRT. They are also the smoothest ridign IMO, apart form the bucking when they start from or come to a stop.
metsfan 2 Posted June 20, 2008 Share #12 Posted June 20, 2008 Well the and are completely R62/A... I prefer the 142A. Propulsion, lighting, aesthetics, and slightly faster than any other IRT car. Ya, i hopped the a bunch of times in a row one day, mostly the new type. The and even looking at videos i have are indeed generally the R62. Sometimes though i'm not paying attention if i'm going between times square and pen station because its the next stop on all 6 lines that serve both. - Andy
PATCOman 196 Posted June 20, 2008 Share #13 Posted June 20, 2008 I picked the R62. For some reason, I like it better than the R62A.

sebbieprops 0 Posted June 22, 2008 Share #18 Posted June 22, 2008 The R142A, hands down. Got to love the propulsion on that one.
R33WF SLC 0 Posted June 29, 2008 Share #19 Posted June 29, 2008 R62A I love the old look subway trains. When I think about it, the R62A were the best choice to replace the R33/36 on the 7. The 62A's still act like the Redbirds in many respects, especially the bouncing & bucking.

R-142 on the and R-142A on the came out around the same time, but the R-142 on the was a lil more flooded. There lots of R-142A's on the with a few R-62's. Then the had a few R-142A's or R-142S's and continued using the R-62's, then the had several R-142's with the orginial announcements with Melissa Kliener and still have the few Redbirds and the got more R-142's.
