New Suffolk Transit Roster

There's more buses than that as I've been told there's about 10 buses there. And as far as routes not just the S58, they have the 5A, S71, S76, S60/69, and some S62 runs. Some routes, including the S58, may share depots. The S110 Clipper may also be at Coram, as I saw a Clipper Bus heading into the yard from Rt.112 the other night. It's a very small operation, and basically it's mostly all the former CBS buses that are back there. And they only have 1 spare bus, 9908, sometimes they have to use Clipper buses as spares, but according to my friend there those are very tired.

I haven't heard anything about what routes were placed in the Coram yard so I don't know if what you heard is right or wrong. Though I could see those routes you mentioned being put in the Coram yard.

. According to some drivers, many feel this was done to put the former CBS Routes "Back Where they Belong".

I think it may have been done more for space. I think Suffolk Transportation Service may have also gotten A/E's Hauppauge contract, which would mean it would be run out of the Ronkonkoma Depot #2 with the CI contract since that is their closest yard to Hauppauge. Yard #2 isn't that big (especially since it houses big and mini buses.) so I would guess they would have had to put buses in the other yard which would have caused them to need to move some transit buses. out. A Space issue also makes sense since they also said they were moving some para transit buses to the Coram Yard as well.

Thinking it over, if 9908 is the spare and is counted as one of the 10 buses, then the routes are probably split between Ronkonkoma and Coram (except the S76 as that only needs one bus) since if they had all the runs of the routes you listed they would need more then 10 buses in the Coram yard.

My guess would be.

Spare - 1

S76 - 1

S58 - 2

S62 - 2

5A - 2

S60 - 1 (Most likely the run that turns into the S69)

S71 -1

Of course if the S110 is being run out of Coram then obviously I'm wrong.

What does EBT do with the Coach and Equipment Metrolites?  Kind of odd they have 3 vans there, as para buses are based out of SBC and I have never seen a van on any of the routes operated by EBT....

I assume they would be used for driver relief like they were said to be used for.

Wow, the S58 has the entire Yard and its 2 buses to itself.

Like Suffolk Transportation's  Bay Shore yard, the Coram yard is shared with school buses. (Four school contracts are most likely run out of the Coarm yard.) so the S58 doesn't have the entire yard to itself.

However since this is a recent move, there isn't that much information on the routes or buses housed there, I only put the S58 because that was said to be there earlier.

I assume they would be used for driver relief like they were said to be used for.

I see.  Are they marked in SCAT livery?  Interesting that SCT gives the operator buses to transport relief drivers and this is something that is not the operators responsibility (unless the operator buys these buses from Suffolk County when they are about to retire them).

Yeah they have the SCAT livery. I think the county gives them to the operator, I'm not 100% sure. (My contact didn't say how CBS Lines had gotten #2402, which is now at SBC, but they did tell me that they used it for driver relief. It was the only vehicle I believe CBS had for such purpose other then a company owned van.)

I heard #2217-2218 has operator EBT on them, or at least EBT is written on them, and that apparently you could see where Suffolk Bus Corp had been written on them.  I know that Suffolk Bus Corp had been using Para Transit buses for driver relief in the past, I have no idea if those buses had been active Para Transit vans or had been retired.

Some routes, including the S58, may share depots.

That may actually be correct. I just heard that 1031 was used on the 7D/E yesterday in possible place of a bus that is on the route before the switch the 3:15 bus causes. If that is true then it proves a split since the 7D/E is most likely still run out of the Ronkonkoma Yard and 1031 is usually on the S58.

Also it is believed that 1058 is still the bus used on the 3:15 7D/E, which could prove that the S62 is split between depots since the 1058 was used on the 7D/E after being taken off the S62. Either that or it proves that the 3:15 7D/E run is run out of Coram.

What does EBT do with the Coach and Equipment Metrolites?  Kind of odd they have 3 vans there, as para buses are based out of SBC and I have never seen a van on any of the routes operated by EBT....

I assume they would be used for driver relief like they were said to be used for.

Just an FYI, EBT uses a Chevy sedan with "official" plates (assuming the vehicle is owned by Suffolk County or SCT) for driver relief.

I wondered if EBT used anything else for driver relief besides the para transit buses. I know SBC at times in the past used mini buses from their sister company (and the company whose's name is actually on the Contract) STS and a Ford Crown Victoria, and CBS used a company owned Dodge Van. (The Dodge Van also went to CBS, though I don't know if they still have it.)

One sure way to know if it's County owned (Besides anything on the plates) is if there was a County seal on it. I don't know if all, but most County owned cars I've seen has the county seal on the Driver and front Passenger door.

If you get to Walt Whitman Mall you'll sometimes see what I assume is a supervisor or dispatcher with SCT sitting in the parking lot behind the bus lanes in the same type of car (grey chevy sedan with official plates) looking like the guy is logging in times the buses get to the mall. I've seen the same car at Amityville RR once with the guy outside talking to someone, he was wearing a white shirt and SCT jacket so i know SCT must use these cars as this guy wasn't a driver as EBT drivers have blue shirts that have a EBT logo on one arm and an SBT logo on the other arm.  Unless EBT supervisors/dispatchers wear white and the SCT allows them to use these cars.

BTW there is no county seal on the vehicle just an "official" plate.   I assume the car is owned by the County and given to the operators just like the buses...

I wondered if EBT used anything else for driver relief besides the para transit buses. I know SBC at times in the past used mini buses from their sister company...

Speaking of which I always assumed Educational Bus transportation INC and EBT INC were the same company (just abbreviated for the transit buses) until about a year ago when I realized they are two separate companies.  So technically they have two companies housed in the same yard on Sunrise highway even all I'm pretty sure it's ran as one company, proof is that they "share" drivers, a driver can have work that involves transit and school bus work in the same day (as discussed on this forum in the past).  This is odd, it makes complete business sense because both "companies" are protected should EBT should lose the SCT contract or Educational lose a big contract, etc the company who lost the contract could just file bankruptcy and close without affecting other parts of their business.  But I know someone who runs the office for a parent company that owns multiple company (they all share an office) and I was told the DOT is very anal in situations where companies "share" drivers and office space...  They expect separate records, separate random drug/alchol tests, etc.  So let's say a driver drives both a school and transit bus, Educational and EBT must both keep separate records on the driver, both EBT and educational would have to maintain a system to randomly test this driver (technically this driver could come up for a random for EBT and come up for a random the next day for Educational).

Suffolk Transit doesn't have dispatchers. All Dispatchers are employees of the bus companies.  As for Supervisors, I'm not exactly sure how that term would work with SCT. If the guy isn't with the bus company then it's probably an employee in the transportation division of the DPW, I'm not sure if or how many people would be considered actually working for SCT on the county side since it's tied into the DPW (Shown with the Commissioner of the DPW holding the duel title of head of the Transportation department)

I know very little about EBT and the practices, though I would assume that if their supervisors had uniforms, it would be probably be white,  there would probably be a company logo on the shirt somewhere.

I've never seen EBT's logo, but I heard SBC just redid theirs. It's now a circle with Suffolk Transit or Suffolk County Transit written at the top and Suffolk Bus at the bottom.

I know may years ago SBC allowed their drivers who worked part time the opportunity to drive mini buses for STS for hours. I know this because my mini bus run (I joined the run late in the year after the original driver had left for reasons I had never learned) ended up with two drivers who said they did transit runs before getting in the mini bus, one (or both) said they did the 6A. (I recall the one who I defiantly remember saying he drove the 6A waving to the driver of the 6A one time when he passed him and the the driver of the 6A waving and honking the buses horn in return.) There was a third driver who did say if he did transit but I seem to recall him wearing a transit uniform and I believe I saw him years later driving the S61.

BTW this is the car that seems to have some sort of a supervisor or dispatcher in it logging bus times similarly to what NICE does (and LIB did)...

My guess is that it is a former County owned car that they county gave to EBT, and which they use to keep an eye on their drivers. Again that's just a guess. I mean all current county own cars I've seen have the county seal on it. (Just like most, if not all town owned vehicles have their town seal on it.) Though I could see that car have been used as a County owned car at one point.

Nah, It's got "official" license plates (EBT wouldn't be able to register their vehicles as official) this vehicle is either owned by Suffolk County or SCT.

If that's true Suffolk County needs to stop wasting money on perks for the operators and put the money into the operations, this isn't the 1970's a lot of companies would be more than happy to run the system with what is stated in the contract no free vehicles, gas, upkeep on their yard.  lol If any od what you say is true Newsday needs to do an article on the situation and show the taxpayers (and riders) their money being wasted!

I continually see cars from Babylon to Amityville (last town before Nassau) that have "official" license plates without any sort of County or Town seal...  So...

Lets stop guessing... lol  I posted this as a reference to what I was talking about before (maybe I should of said that), not "what is it, what is it? Please guess..."  because when I don't know what something, I really want to hear what others "guess" it is. lol

The only cars I could think of that would be like that would be a car that the County/Town/Village owned but allows an elected official use. I mean most vehicles's I've seen that County or Town workers have used have a seal on it.

Nah, It's got "official" license plates (EBT wouldn't be able to register their vehicles as official) this vehicle is either owned by Suffolk County or SCT.

Unless the car is still registered as being owned by the county.  By gave I meant that the county still owns the car but they gave it to EBT because the car was no longer useful to the county, (I mean I would think that most County owned cars would be 2008 model year or younger, the car in your photo looks early 2000's, I would surely think that no County or Town would keep a car that old in their fleet.) like with the Para-transit buses that EBT has.

a lot of companies would be more than happy to run the system with what is stated in the contract

I'm not sure exactly what Suffolk's contract with the companies states. The only thing I know is that they get a stipend for maintenance fees for their yard(s).  CBS Lines never seemed to use the stipend or didn't use alot of it, which caused them to keep getting audited by the county. Anything else I have no clue, though one could make the case that if the car did come from the county that if it were to be used for Driver relief that would count to operations.
