A well-known Staten Island deli closed Monday after more than 30 years in business.

Golden's Deli in New Springville served traditional New York City kosher food to Islanders since 1980.

Owner Ray Pannone said leasing issues with the landlord forced him to close.

He held an auction at the restaurant on Tuesday to help clear out some fixtures, though the authentic subway car is staying.

Diners can't believe this is the end of the line.

"You know, it's an institution. It really is. As long as I've been here, it's terrific, but, that's sad,” said Steve Waksghal, a deli patron.

Pannone said he wants to reopen the restaurant in the New Springville area with a similar menu and decor.
