LRG Posted January 5, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 5, 2012 A well-known Staten Island deli closed Monday after more than 30 years in business.Golden's Deli in New Springville served traditional New York City kosher food to Islanders since 1980. Owner Ray Pannone said leasing issues with the landlord forced him to close. He held an auction at the restaurant on Tuesday to help clear out some fixtures, though the authentic subway car is staying. Diners can't believe this is the end of the line. "You know, it's an institution. It really is. As long as I've been here, it's terrific, but, that's sad,” said Steve Waksghal, a deli patron. Pannone said he wants to reopen the restaurant in the New Springville area with a similar menu and decor. Via Garibaldi 8 Posted January 5, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 5, 2012 Yeah, a few places on Staten Island that have been around for years and have been staples have closed. Basilio's not too far from me on Forest Avenue closed down a few years ago and I don't anything has replaced it yet.
Joel Up Front Posted January 5, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 5, 2012 So this was the diner that housed an R6 for seating (and to the foamers, essentially 1/3 of the car and the trucks are gone, so it's not going to any museum). What will become of what was once that R6?
SoSpectacular Posted January 5, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 5, 2012 Leasing issues, eh? Probably wanted more money!!
Brighton Local Posted January 5, 2012 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2012 Growing up on Staten Island, and dining here for years, this is sad news. I really hope they find a way to re-open. They have great food, and of course, the inside rocks
