It's the midday.

You fell asleep on the express train.

You wake up and see an (S) train, so you know you overslept. You quickly get out onto the platform.

You do the math, and it turns out you needed to get out 8 stops ago to transfer to a Queens-bound local train.

That Queens-bound local would have taken to your stop, which has the same name no matter which (S) train you saw.

What are the two routes you may have taken?

The 7th Ave route at Borough Hall and the Lexington Ave route at Atlantic Ave, 8 stops past the trsnsfer point. The (S) is the Times Sq-Grand Central Shuttle and the Queens bound local is the (R).

You have to physically see an (S) train. You would not be able to see a shuttle train from any other platform at Times Square.

The only 2 routes you can physically see an (S) is Prospect Park (B)(Q) on the Brighton line. Back track 8 stops on the (B) puts you at 42nd where the  (7) is transferable at 5th Ave.  (Q) would put you at 57th St, 7th Ave.  (N)  (R)  (W) are all locals into Queens, but 57th is the terminal stop which means he got on the  (Q) at 57th going south. But why when the  (N) & (W) are available going north to Queensboro? Perhaps he was going to Vernon or Hunters Pt and the  (Q) was quicker but he fell asleep before arriving at Times Sq one stop later

That Queens-bound local would have taken to your stop, which has the same name no matter which (S) train you saw.

This is confusing. You can physically see only one (S) from the train as you stated earlier so what does that sentence above mean?

Some (A) train riders might disagree with that.

111th St on the (7) & (J). After all the work I put into completing that "What If" (A)  (C) schedule I should be shot for missing that.  The two routes are (A) & (B). Well done P3F.

I don't deserve to go. Pass

I was thinking of Woodhaven Boulevard on the (M) and (J) but your answer is valid as well.

This station is on an elevated structure. During the middle of construction, plans were changed, and the structure was modified. This station has had its name changed. Which station is it?

125 Street on the (1), originally called Manhattan Street and originally meant to be 2 tracks, changed to three.
