She was one of hundreds aboard a Sydney-bound train from Mount Victoria when it derailed and crashed into the Bold Street overpass at Granville, in Sydney's west, on January 18, 1977. Eighty-three people were killed and over 210 injured after the bridge collapsed and crushed two passenger carriages. Granville train crash victims remembered For those not aware this is Australia's worst rail disaster. On this day in 1977 Locomotive 4620 with the 6:09AM Mount Victoria to Sydney Terminal derailed at 8:11AM outside Granville station and hit the bridge support of the Bold Street overpass bringing down the overpass onto two pass cars.
