NICE Planned Service/Schedule Changes

I remember one day it took me about 20-30 mins to get from Merrick Blvd and Archer Ave to Van Wyck Blvd Station on the Q44 and I was so irritated. I probably could have taken the to Van Wyck Blvd and been 2 buses ahead.

Did they change the n80's route? The map shows it going over to Merrick Road for a small section, and then turning on what I'm assuming to be Uniqua to enter the mall.

 

I'm very curious to see what will become of the n16 south of HTC now that the Mercy shuttle is every 40 minutes.

Yeah they did. It resembles the 2003 routing (then-LIB) so it will now go on Park Blvd, to Merrick, to Unqua Road.  I don't know the exact reasoning for this change, and what's over there that makes NICE think there's ridership potential there. Also, I don't know what prevents the n80 to go straight down on Hicksville Road to Sunrise Highway, and vice versa. It seems rather more time-consuming to go on Grand Ave, Broadway, then Sunrise Highway.

n45:

-Addition of a new midday trip to Bellmore at 1:35 PM. This may be to cover some areas left without service due to the elimination of the n51, and the elimination of the n46 and n50 from Bellmore.

 

I realized the n45 has the depot right by the RFM, so they probably got smart and figured that if they were deadheading to Bellmore anyway, they might as well service some riders along the way.

The service changes for the summer has been released. The n80/81 runs hourly individually, and the n1's trips to Hewlett ends much earlier. I think NICE should consider extending the n1 westward into Jamaica.

The Fall schedules for NICE Bus have been posted. The schedules are supposed to take effect on September 4th. The Elmont Flexi (n2) no longer travels on Rockaway Parkway, or Fletcher Avenue, it now uses Corona Avenue to reach Dutch Broadway to get to Meacham. The Flexi also makes reserved stops at Hendrickson Park, Franklin Hospital, Fletcher/Dutch Broadways, Wheeler Ave, and Valley Stream Blvd. The Freeport Loop no longer has that ARHC branch, and the n51 makes  4 trips to Merrick, 5 trips to Roosevelt Field.

NICE is trying to serve the few people who travel between Merrick, NCC, and Roosevelt Field. There's plenty of alternatives to the n51 North of the Coliseum while very few people ride it south of Hempstead Turnpike.

I know that; it was more of a rhetorical question. My point is that I don't see this benefiting much of anyone, and the majority of would-be riders already are using other modes to get around.

Another thing I noticed by looking at the current schedules, is that there will be a service cut to the Mercy Medical Shuttle (Already? lol). PM service will run every 45 minutes Northbound, from 3:20 PM to 6:20 PM, instead of every 40 minutes from 3:20 PM to 7:20 PM. Southbound service will run every 45 minutes southbound, from 3:00 PM to 6:45 PM, instead of every 40 minutes from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. AM service remains the same.

They'll probably use that bus on the n45 during rush hours or something. As for who they're serving, probably college students at NCC, and mall shoppers and part-time workers at Roosevelt Field.

September 4th is restoration of n51, and schedule changes on n4/4X, n6/6X, n15, n20G/H, n21, n24, n25, n31/32, n35, n40/41, n47/48/49, n70/71/72.

 

For Elmont Flexi is new reservation bus with off route reservation bus stops called FLEXI Stops, where NICE Bus riders had to call 2-hours in advance to reserve bus to show up.
