Dj Hammers Posted November 28, 2015 Share #26 Posted November 28, 2015 The will never get any R160s ever in it's life time again. It will most definitely get R179. There was power problems in Rockaway's which got them taken off the . R160s were incompatible with LIPA. That problem was resolved.

2 Train Master Posted November 29, 2015 Share #29 Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) Usually over the summer there is a gap in service and a makes it way to Lefferts or one of the Rockaways, and I remember a R32 and 160 sets being sent out to Far Rock for service gap. I don't know why but it seems a or even was sent o Lefferts or Rockaways. Edited November 29, 2015 by 2 Train Master

train fanatic 12 Posted November 29, 2015 Share #32 Posted November 29, 2015 That problem was resolved. Mr Hammers when was this issue resolved. The R160s never touched Rockaway's rails after 2006. The farest the R160s would go is only the Flats between Broad Channel and Howard Beach. When the R160s was in the Rockaway's the HAVC would go off and on. Trains would lose power, then gain power. If you can argue when was last time you saw a test train R160 or regular R160 in Rockaway's?
ttcsubwayfan Posted November 29, 2015 Share #33 Posted November 29, 2015 That doesn't prove anything. It could just be that they had no need for the R160s on the since they've resolved the issue. If you don't see NTTs up at 242 St on the , does that mean they have electrical problems too? Correlation does not imply causation.

Javier Posted November 29, 2015 Share #36 Posted November 29, 2015 It means that the poor thing short circuited because of power issues.

bwwnyc123 Posted June 13, 2020 Share #39 Posted June 13, 2020 One of the first sets of R160s did a 30 day passenger service test on . Now after all of these years now they are finally using them for regular passenger service. Before R160 had some electrical power issues on The Rockaway Line in Queens, then they fixed the problem and started using R179 and now those cars are having some unrelated mechanical issues and was pulled from service to be fixed maybe they will return to passenger service soon. And now using R160 and R46.

Was the issue fully resolved?

Was the issue fully resolved? The electrical supplier in The Rockaways is power by LIPA(Long Island Power Authority) they provide less power voltages. Con Edison provides more power voltages for the rest of the Subway System except in the Rockaway areas. Currently All NTT cars(R142/R142A/R188/R143/R160/R179) use more power voltages than the older Subway cars(R32/R46/R68/R68A/R62/R62A). R160 need to use more voltages to operate in The Rockaway areas powered by LIPA produced less voltages. The problem is currently resolved now because R179 just recently operated good in The Rockaways and now R160s. Currently now LIPA is now joint together with PSEG(Public Service Enterprise Group) in The Rockaways.
