East New York Posted February 24, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2012 This morning, Orion representatives met with Nassau County/NICE officials to discuss the terms of the next CNG order. At this time all is a go for up to 45 new buses to begin delivery in just a couple months. The buses are said to have similar specs to the NG's, and Nassau is set to issue a Notice To Proceed next week. As more details become available, I will be sure to post them. R188 7857 Posted February 24, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2012 I can't wait to see the looks of these buses! So, they are the Orion 5 replacements or are they just add-ons?

When I talked to NICE at the community meeting, they said these are going to replace the older Orion Vs.
N4 Via Merrick Rd Posted February 25, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2012 well those orion 5s should stay to hold the capacity of service after April 8th. the 3Gs may look similar to the 3G those in the city but with a CNG unit on top, stainless steel railings,a Intelligent Transportation Systems(automated annoncments)like this ,obviously it may come wrapped. Marctalky1 Posted February 25, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 25, 2012 Lets make so that the stop light up so where the driver can see unlike the 1700's. Too many times drivers are missing stops.

On some buses, when a stop is requested, a light pops up on the dashboard. I'm surprised the Orion buses don't have that. I think the Nova RTS buses have that. And I was on the newly painted 1827 yesterday, and the driver almost missed my stop until somebody else yelled "getting off" and he braked. Joel Up Front Posted February 25, 2012 Share #7 Posted February 25, 2012 I can't wait to see the looks of these buses! You take the 3G's the city has and slap CNG tanks on top. Maybe swap the wheels for Alcoas.

The Orion 5s and 7s do have it. As for this news, I hope they give those 2000 Orion 5s to us here in the city!!!!!

Those tanks are probably bad anyway and they're slower than the city Orion Vs. You can have them.
User Posted February 25, 2012 Share #12 Posted February 25, 2012 they are not in bad shape/just the luminator screens need a little repair That is wrong. Explain why when I was at Great Neck the other day, a 1500 broke down and the 1600 I was on had trouble starting up. The engine wouldn't turn over. I really thought of buying one of the old 5s (1400s) with the L10G engine, but I doubt the will ever let them out of Eastchester.

dmouse Posted March 3, 2012 Share #22 Posted March 3, 2012 They shouldve auctioned off the Orion Vs from 1990... *Sigh Again In NY state, eespecially in the city getting a CNG distrubutor is kinda hard.
dmouse Posted March 3, 2012 Share #23 Posted March 3, 2012 Heres what the new 3Gs might look like Option 1 Current MTA 3G specs Option 2 the NG Specs
N-Trizzy2609 Posted March 4, 2012 Share #24 Posted March 4, 2012 Heres what the new 3Gs might look like Option 1 Current MTA 3G specs Option 2 the NG Specs The "long" back door has been discontinued by Orion. The standard is now "even" doors. The only option I can see NICE taking is maybe Frameless windows. Thats about it.
Joel Up Front Posted March 4, 2012 Share #25 Posted March 4, 2012 I'll be sad to see the good old Orion V CNGs with the DD50G engines go. As fast and aesthetically pleasing the NG CNGs may be, those things cannot handle crowds at all... the 2011 NGs at least had better rides than the '09 order.
