MTS is currently in negotiations with an undisclosed operator for up to 2000 high floor Legend Transit buses. Yes, I typed 2000! This particular agency has decided that replacement of their entire fleet with new RTS' would be best for their operations. As this story continues to develop, I will be sure to post more details. Its beeing kept under wraps until the funding is in place. Well, let's see what transit authorities in the USA have more than 2000 fixed route buses: Chicago Transit Authority (2053) (but 1000+ of these are from 2006+) NJT (2170) (but this includes MCI's so no chance) Los Angeles MTA (2421) (didn't they recently get new buses too?) NYCT LACMTA just put out a new bid for 30 test buses which MTS is looking into. They also just had a procurement for 700 CNG buses which is reportedly going to NABI. Chigaco will soon order more artics. NJT could however end up with some MTS buses after all according to new reports of the proposal for them. Which most likely leads to it being....ding ding....New York City Transit. Definitely not NYCT. MTS has to get past BT&E first. Thats why the 90 high floor express buses are on the table with 90 low floor transit buses to follow. Not only that, but MTA will likely never order high floor transit buses again.
