BTW Jonesy, do you shoot auto or shoot with manual settings? If auto, the camera picks up the light and how the environment is, whether it shadows off the light. By the looks of it, it probably gave you a low aperture, and then a fast shutter speed. But its actually pretty good, its not all that dark.
