Oriskany, N.Y. (December 16, 2011) – Orion Transit Buses received an order from Central New York CENTRO for 62 Orion VII buses. Locally manufactured, these buses will help to support the over 500 jobs at the Orion production facility in Oriskany, N.Y. The Orion VII transit buses will be delivered by the end of 2013 to CENTRO.

“We are pleased that our local community continues to support its local bus manufacturer by buying buses built right here in Oneida County,” said Richard O. Ferguson, president and CEO of Orion Transit Buses. “Our relationship with CENTRO continues to strengthen based on our quality products and services, and we are ecstatic that CENTRO has the confidence in Orion.”

The buses purchased by CENTRO will have various powertrains; 56 are Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and are being built for the city of Syracuse. The remaining 6 are powered by a clean-diesel EPA 2010 complaint engines and are for Utica (5 buses) and Rome (1 bus). All include the styling and functionality improvements that were launched in 2010 when the 3rd generation Orion VII was introduced.

CENTRO has almost four decades of doing business with Orion. In the 1990s the three cities of Syracuse, Rome, and Utica combined purchased approximately 165 Orion buses. Since 2000, over 51 buses have been ordered by CENTRO, which started managing the transit operations of Rome and Utica in that same year.
