Kony 2012

Here's the vid everyone's talking about:

Personally, I believe in the cause. However, some people say that "Invisible Children" is pocketing 69% of the donations. Others say this is an oil scam. I want opinions, if I may ask.

I usually don't get involved in politics but this is sickening.

Why are people spreading this filth video? This organization only contributes 1/3 of what they are really raising at the most. It is to raise money to capture or kill Kony, and in the process will have to kill the very same children they are trying to save, and for U.S. Military expansion in the region because the Chinese government is trying to capitalize on the area by building factories, importing cheap goods and eventually taking this countries untapped oil reserves.

The issues in Uganda go much deeper than Joseph Kony. And more into the workings of the corrupt Ugandan government. These issues cannot even be helped by spreading these vile 30 minute videos and thinking you will make a difference by giving monetary and public support to an organization that will help a military use violent intervention killing the same kids they are supposedly trying to save. People who keep spreading this video are doing more harm than good.

The cause is a lost one.

Why so pestimistic?

Honestly stuff like this happens almost every day in the world and point blank, when this exploded on Facebook, someone liking a status will not take down a warlord.

There was a photo George Takei uploaded with the same notion.

we have problems of our own in America, such as the economy, tons of people of our own that are without adequate food and water, lets focus on getting our fellow Americans back on their feet before we spend money elsewhere. Especially in regions that are known for getting one despot after another. Unless Uganda becomes a threat to this country, I see no reason to get involved there.

Lol, yeah, "let the UN take care of that". It's what they were supposed to be doing (if they weren't so useless and stealing 22% of their budget from the US and bothering Manhattan for their damn assemblies). The US is not some global police state that can afford to stop conflicts at every corner of the world. There's no money for these endless conflicts. Their problem, not ours.

Joseph Kony is a piece of ****, but killing him will not solve the problem. Africa has and always will be a dump because the majority of the countries on that continent are run by corrupt leaders who crap on their people (for the record, I am an African-American). It continues to be that way in spite of the zillions of dollars we donate to that continent. Also, the Ugandan Government has advocated for legislation to kill gays (the bill even has the support of their president). There are also one zillion warlords in the jungles of those countries who can easily replace a guy like Kony (and he is not even in Uganda anymore, as other have pointed out) . The problem is endemic and complex and a silly 30 minute video will not change this. I also find it ironic that many of the people advocating for war in Uganda on twitter and facebook are the same people who bitch and complain about going to war in Afghanistan, a country whose government gave free reign to Al-Queda and helped those cockroaches to carry out their despicable attacks on this country on that fateful Tuesday morning. In addition, we are as broke as hell, up in our ass in debt, NASA is getting no money (as the great Neil deGrasse Tyson points out) and our infrastructure is falling apart (have you seen what is already happening to the new South Ferry Terminal). How about we put some money in our country and tell the world to **** off. Like another poster would say, carry on.

This guy needs to be brought down, but America needs to mind its own business for once. This is why we need Ron Paul.
Ron Paul's foreign policy is not workable in a world like this. It would be perfect in 1825 when you could only travel in ships. It cannot work in a world where airplanes can be used to attack landmarks.

Again, the UN can't do anything about anything because of the way it's designed. You need unanimous international support (or at the very least, to get opponents of your agenda to not cast a vote) in order to get anything accomplished. Just throwing it out there.

Pertaining to this specific issue, Jon, Andrew and peacemak3r hit the nail on the head. Even if you dispose of this Kony guy, it won't change a damn thing. All they'll do is shuffle the deck and move their number two up. The cycle won't stop simply because one guy is dead, captured, whatever.

Listen if the world thinks Kony is the only person on the face of the planet committing human atrocities then think again. North Korea has been doing it for decades with their prison camps, and in Sudan millions of people are being killed right now in Darfur. Yet they don't get any recognized. Why is only one problem being recognized while there are hundreds of atrocities being committed right now. It doesn't make sense. If we stop a problem then there are other problems too. Why can't we put a stop to all problems and just solve a problem. You can twist a pipe while it is leaking to reduce the leak to almost nothing, but if you don't fix it completely then the leak will come back.

Even worse this organization pays their workers. All the NPO's I worked for never pays their employees because it's community service. Why is this one paying their employees it makes no sense at all.
