But i like a bus driver who drives fast, he or she knows us passengers have to connect to other bus routes. I think that sign made for residental street, not for Northern Blvd. Also on school zone, speed limit is 25mph. In Long Island and Westchester County you can turn right on red light after complete stop, but not bus drivers and unless sign stays "NO TURN ON RED", but most of motorists keep honking at bus operator to make right turn on red because they not aware buses are not allowed to turn at red light. Also n20 and n21 are also slow down at Great Neck's U-turn roadway in front of Natural Organic Market where irresponsable shoppers block the space where buses had to make wide U-turn. Also just line when n23 is making right turn from northbound Willis Av to eastbound Warner Av, where most of motorists on westbound don't read sign that states "STOP HERE ON RED" because buses and trucks have to make wide right turn. It may have to do with the bus' turning radius being bigger than that of a car, and needs more space. Most of Long Island motorists wouldn't read the sign and they don't even slow down. I'm sure Northern Blvd is not part of 25mph. School buses are not allowed to turn right on red anywhere in New York State because NYS doesn't allow it anywhere in the state. Suffolk County Transit (On Long Island) makes right on red because there is no law preventing all buses on Long Island from doing so. About a year ago I noticed the stickers and new no right on red policy on NICE, other companies do this, it's a safety feature. If a NICE bus is hit while turning on a red not only could people be hurt but NICE is liable fir the accident (it goes without saying but judging by the last two pages I read of this thread it needs to be explained that ANYONE turning right on red is automatically at fault if they are hit by anyone with the green). Right on red is not by any non emergency vehicle in the boroughs of NYC unless a sign is present allowing it. Maybe they could have special stings, have cops on the bus every once and a while. Or maybe the county can contract out a private company to hand out "notices of liability" like they do with red light tickets. They wouldn't be real cops so they wouldn't be real tickets so there's no real enforcement besides being able to send it to a collection agency. What are they going to do with a picture of the cheat? How would they find him? Email the picture to a cop to pull over the bus? Really? Do I even have to point out the flaws in that? Out of curiosity, where did you come up with the figure of $500 as a ticket for fare evasion? I got a $80 red light ticket ($50.00 fine + $30.00 "driver responsibility fee ).... In fact, when I was escorting my blind vegetarian friend to Pt. Washington after LIBRU meeting, police pulled over our n23 bus looking for suspect (not farebeater).
