Dulles Metrorail expansion: Vienna (Va.) business owner wants DC Metro project off his property

"When construction first began on a Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (DC Metro)expansion to the Dulles Corridor in Vienna, Va., officials told business owners it may affect their driveway by only a few feet.

Three years later, one business owner said the construction is easily 20 feet on his property and is costing him hundreds of thousands of dollars in business.

John Kenney, owner of the MVC Couples Boutique, said a 33-foot driveway is at the heart of a heated dispute between him and officials behind the Dulles Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority project.

"For three years now, we've dealt with Metro just bullying us around and taking advantage of our parking lot," Kenney said.

Kenney alleges his business is taking a serious hit because of construction crews blocking nearly half of the drive to his doorstep, a portion of pavement he said is "private." Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority officials disagree."

FYI. Mr. Kenney's "business" is that he is the owner of a sex movie/adult business shop.

You're a damned fool if you actually buy porn.

The products and services this business offers to it's customers is irrelevant to the issue.

First off his beef is with Dulles Transit Partners and the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority not WMATA. The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project is not a WMATA project.

Me thinks he has no case.

The property his business occupies and the easement to access it abuts the former Merchants Tire property that was taken for the north entrance pavilion to the Tysons Central 7 (Pike Seven Plaza) Station. The easement is shared by him another business and the Merchants Tire store.

His business occupies the building with the white roof behind the Big Screen Store.

I also think this business will be gone shorty after if not before the station opens. Fairfax County has ambitious plans to change the look of Tysons Corner. Several business have already moved out in anticipation of those changes.
