Cait Sith Posted April 7, 2012 Share #26 Posted April 7, 2012 So it's not just me that thinks something is off about this whole mattress bit...... From what was said when I made my visit to the depot yesterday, the mattress got mangled up underneath the bus and was dragged. It got dragged to the point where it started to get really hot and something punctured the plastic fuel tank (yes, I said plastic).

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the undercarriage supposed to be the most protected part of any vehicle? Why in the hell would you equip any vehicle, let alone a public transit bus, with a plastic fuel tank?

I mean what are the chances of a bus running over a mattress?
East New York Posted April 7, 2012 Share #31 Posted April 7, 2012 The mattress excuse is a funny one because it takes a lot more to spark a fire with diesel fuel than it does with gasoline. It's just something they are saying right now because It's something that a majority of the public will believe right away. If the there was a fire caused by diesel fuel like they claim, the damage would not be centered over the engine compartment (that's not where the fuel tank is). Right! You can put a flame out with diesel! Now hydraulic fluid........
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted April 7, 2012 Share #32 Posted April 7, 2012 It's a cheap and simple way to save weight. I mean what are the chances of a bus running over a mattress? But come on now... As much as those buses cost, I don't see why they would need to use that.
