BM5 via Woodhaven Posted February 10, 2016 Share #4477 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) Anyway now that that's over The Q36 replace its current terminal stop in Floral park and move it to the LIRR station. I don't think it's warranted. I don't see this as benefiting anyone really. In addition, Floral Park residents don't want a bus running in their own neighborhood (well at least the residential areas). The village elders didn't want buses targeting their children while carrying "poor folks" from Queens.

IAlam Posted February 10, 2016 Share #4481 Posted February 10, 2016 I doubt there will be even many riderss at that extremely tiny portion of the route anyway. I'm pretty sure buses will only carry 1-2 passages tops except when leaving the station cause for obvious reasons

aemoreira81 Posted February 17, 2016 Share #4484 Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) In the way of straightening things out and to reduce the number of turns made, but knowing that there is an important ridership generator on the Q47 to serve, I would propose these changes on the Q47. Southbound: via 80 Street...instead of turning right on 25 Avenue (because 77 Street is so narrow between 25 and 30 Avenues), continue south on 80 Street to 31 Avenue, and then make the right. Northbound: keep the Q47 on 77 Street to 24 Avenue, right onto 24 Avenue, and then a left turn onto 82 Street. 77 Street between 30 and 25 Avenue would become a one-way northbound, and the left lane on Astoria Boulevard at 82 Street would no longer be blocked by a bus trying to make a left turn. You'dmake it much difficult for people in that intermediate area to catch the Q47. There's no bus after 80 Street along 25 Avenue or 30 Avenue under your proposal. Also, the Q33 is right there for those riders anyways. I would just leave it as it is.

This conversion of 77 Street to one way is going to force the issue though. http://jacksonheightspost.com/dot-plans-to-make-part-of-77th-st-one-way-brings-change-to-q47-route/ It may be possible to reroute the Q47 down 78 Street (have it turn on 24 Avenue and then run down 78 Street instead of 80 Street)....but two-way running on 77 Street is all but finished.

DetSMART45 Posted February 19, 2016 Share #4488 Posted February 19, 2016 The block in question should have been one-way all along. By allowing 2-way, you almost encourage thru traffic -- on a bus route, no less -- because 78th east are alternating one-ways, 76th is north only, and 75th is commercial on one side of the two-way. Not the MTA's fault, but DOT's lack of planning. All of the surrounding areas have the same (almost identical) residential density, and yet this is the sole block left differently? Plenty of basic facts, including accident reports, but DOT drags its feet. Should have been done a long time ago.

It's a legacy of the pre-Bloomberg DOT, which was a pretty big fan of haphazard one-way conversions regardless of whether or not the community actually wanted one-way streets (and in a lot of cases, they didn't because they didn't want traffic to go fast through their blocks.)
aemoreira81 Posted February 24, 2016 Share #4494 Posted February 24, 2016 Another issue having to deal with narrow streets and meets is the Q38 through Juniper Valley (not the Eliot Avenue part). Penelope Avenue is a street that has no business carrying two way traffic, yet it does, and there are Q38 meets along Glendale Avenue. I would propose several changes, which might require some reconfigurations: 1. Change 64 Road to a one-way eastbound street between 80 Street and Woodhaven Boulevard. 2. Change Penelope Avenue to a one-way westbound street between Woodhaven Boulevard and 75 Place (eastbound traffic would instead use the two-way Furmanville Avenue or 64 Road). 3. Reconfigure the 80 Street/Dry Harbor Road/Furmanville Avenue intersection to add an extra 10-12 seconds of green for traffic from Furmanville Avenue can navigate through the situation (this would add an extra light to the intersection just west of the main intersection, governing 80 Street coming from Grand Avenue). All moves would be made in consultation with City Council District 30, as this would introduce buses to 64 Road for the first time. A reroute of the Q38 would then happen as follows: Toward Corona via Metro Mall: Instead or turning off of Penelope Avenue at 77 Place to head to Furmanville Avenue, and then turning off Furmanville at 75 Place to reach Juniper Valley Road, the Q38 would remain on Penelope Avenue to 74 Street, then turn left at 74 Street and then turn right onto Juniper Valley Road. Toward Rego Park: The Q38 would continue to use 75 Place to reach Furmanville Avenue. However, instead of turning left at 77 Place to reach Penelope Avenue, the Q38 would remain on Furmanville Avenue to 80 Street, then snake through that intersection, turn left on Dry Harbor Road, turn right onto 64 Road, turn left onto Woodhaven Boulevard, and turn right on 63 Drive to the current bus stop. New stops to be added: Toward Corona via Metro Mall: 1. Penelope Avenue and 77 Street 2. Penelope Avenue and 75 Street 3. 74 Street and Juniper Valley Road Toward Rego Park: 1. Furmanville Avenue at 79 Street 2. Dry Harbor Road and 64 Road (existing Q29 stop) 3. 64 Road and 83 Street 4. 64 Road and 84 Street 5. Woodhaven Boulevard and 64 Road (existing Q11/21 stop) Stops to be discontinued: Toward Corona via Metro Mall: 1. Furmanville Avenue and 77 Place 2. Furmanville Avenue and 75 Place 3. Juniper Valley Road and 74 Street (relocated across 74 Street) Toward Rego Park: All stops on Penelope Avenue, at: 1. 79 Street 2. Dry Harbor Road 3. 83 Street 4. 84 Street For motorists, lost parking spaces will be replaced on the south side of the now one-way Penelope Avenue.

It would be really tedious to make that turn from Furmanville to Dry Harbor. I would not route buses via that way, since that's a hazard. If Penelope Avenue ever turns into a one way street (although I don't think it'll happen anytime soon). I would have the Rego Park buses operate on 78 Street as it is, then run to Juniper Blvd S, south on Dry Harbor, and then onto 64 Road, left on Woodhaven Blvd, merge on 63 Drive and regular route. I agree with the routing to Corona, better streamlines service. Edited February 24, 2016 by BM5 via Woodhaven
Q113 LTD Posted March 6, 2016 Share #4496 Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) Q21A between Far Rockaway & Rockaway Beach: The bus route will start on Seagirt Ave/Beach 2nd St in Far Rockaway and end at Rockaway Beach Blvd/Beach 91st St. This new route will travel via Seagirt Blvd, via Edgemere Ave & via Rockaway Beach Blvd. Now lets just say that those empty grass areas along Edgemere Ave were full of houses or highrises and a lot of people are living in it, will this route might work? Note: I am not talking about the old Q21A to East New York that discontinued in 1990 due to poor ridership. checkmatechamp13 Posted March 7, 2016 Share #4499 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) Minor reroute of the Q21/41 in Howard Beach: Buses stay on 84th Street until 160th Avenue, make a left onto 160th, right on Cross Bay Blvd, then go down to their current terminal at 164th Avenue. Then they take 164th Avenue to 84th Street and stay on 84th until 155th and resume their regular route. A stop would be added on the Q52/53 at 160th Avenue (at least northbound, but southbound is probably also a good idea). This provides more coverage in (western) Howard Beach, as well as a quicker ride for those living in the southern section of Howard Beach.
