Unplanned Subway Service Changes

In all honesty, I'd expect them to use a little more intuition in these shutdowns. If the incident is at Brook Av, the only section where power should be turned off is between 3 Avenue (or 125 Street if necessary) and Hunts Point Av. Everything else should left alone. Shutting down the entire Pelham line seems excessive.

Thank you! Exactly my point.

There was also trackwork on the Pelham Line, where a trains went express in one direction. Maybe perhaps of that, trains from the north couldn't terminate at Hunts Point Avenue. Usually when somethung happens on that section, Hunts Point Avenue is used as a southern terminal for Pelham shuttles.

Tonight there was no Service on 4th ave in Brooklyn from about 8:45 to around 9:30 pm or so. Was crazy the platform at Atlantic Ave southbound was dangerously packed. The worst part was that no announcements were made . At least if announments were made people would know to get an Uber etc...

I don’t get why sometimes they have to turn power off in a whole section. Let’s say Grand army plaza (2) and (3) train power off. Do they have to turn power off on the local tracks or also the express as well?

Southbound (1) trains are bypassing 215 St and 207 St because of switch problems at 207 St.

Southbound (2) and (3) train service is resuming with delays after we repaired a rail at Clark St.

Also, some NB (N) trains are running via West End. Not on the MTA website

Edit (This explains it):

Southbound (A) trains will end at Broad Channel.

(A) and Rockaway Park (S) trains are running with delays in both directions.

These service changes are because of a person struck by a train at Beach 105 St.

As an alternative for missed stops, customers are advised to use the Q52 and Q53 bus service.

Another subway meltdown this morning. I decided to take the (1) train this morning.  Waited and waited and waited. Finally a train comes.  The train is packed by the time it gets to 137th.  At that point, I get off knowing that there are trains that start at 137th. Just as it looks like the train is going to close the doors and take off, there's an announcement that the train is going out of service, so now the entire platform is PACKED and sweltering.  Well I didn't stick around. I got the hell out of that station.  I could see at 135th and Broadway that the trains were either crawling or just sitting.

After three buses and three trains, I finally arrived to my office half hour late. <_<  To add insult to injury, there was no announcement as to what was going on, NOR anything on the (MTA) website about (1) service.  I'm assuming that the loss of power on the (2)(3) in the Wall street area that was mentioned on the Status page affected the (1) line?

Delays

(2) , (3) , (4) and (5) train service has resumed following an earlier incident involving a person struck by a train at Sterling St.

Customers may experience delays in both directions as congestion clears.

Service Change

Northbound (C) trains are running express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle because of switch problems at Canal St.

Expect delays in (A) and (C) train service.

Round 2:

Quote

Service Change  Posted: 07/13/2018 11:07AM

Today at 12pm, we are performing preventative maintenance on our signal system at Bergen St. The following service changes will be in effect on the (C), (F) and (G) lines for up to one hour:

There will be no (G) train service south of Bedford-Nostrand Avs. Take a free shuttle bus making all (G) stops between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt Schermerhorn, with a stop at Jay St-MetroTech.

There will be no (F) train service between 2 Av and 4 Av-9 St. (C) trains will stop along the (F) line between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech. Take a free shuttle bus for service between Jay St-MetroTech and 4 Av-9 St.

There will be no (C) train service at High St, Fulton St, Chambers St, Canal St or Spring St. Take an (A) or (E) train instead.

Why are they doing this during the week for? Why not do it on the weekend when most of these lines are out anyway? <_<

If the subway wasn't put to near 1980's condition, this wouldn't need to happen. And of course Mr governor and Mr mayor keep playing hot potato with the subway too so it isn't getting the attention it really needs unless Byford makes it happen.

Even so it makes more sense to put this off until the weekend given how much of the lines are out anyway. They really need to do more blitzes. Platforms, signals, the works...

There is extremely limited (E) , (F) , (Q) and (R) train service between Manhattan and Queens because of signal problems at Lexington Av/63 St. Expect significant delays and service changes.

So what are the service changes?

EDIT:

From what I'm observing on Subway Time

  • Some NB (A) trains and all NB (C) trains are running via the (F) between Jay Street and Rockefeller Center, then over the (D) to Columbus Circle
  • Some NB (F) trains running via the (G) (ETAs not shown at Crosstown stations, but are shown at Queens Plaza)
  • Some NB (F) trains are running via 53 Street (ETAs not shown for 53 Street stations, but are shown at Queens Plaza)
  • There is no Jamaica-bound (F) service at Lexington Avenue, Roosevelt Island, and 21 Street-Queensbridge
  • (R) train service in Queens is suspended
  • Some NB (N) Trains are running on the (Q) between Coney Island and Canal Street
  • NB (R) trains are terminating at Times Square, Whitehall Street, and maybe even 96 Street (will need confirmation on that)
  • (D) and (N) train service are running with significant delays (30+ minutes in between trains and more)

Of course, none of this is on the MTA website.

UPDATE:

Some of the service changes above are excacerbated by this:

Delays  Posted: 07/14/2018  4:42PM

Northbound (D) and (N) trains are running with delays because of a passenger in need of medical assistance at New Utrecht Av.
