Unplanned Subway Service Changes

Due to switch problems at Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer, the following service changes are in effect:

(E) trains are running on the (F) line from Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike to Jamaica-179 St in both directions.

As an alternative, At Parsons Blvd (F) station, take Jamaica-LIRR station bound Q25, Q34 or Q65 buses for Jamaica Center and Sutphin Blvd-JFK stations.

Expect delays in both directions.

Allow additional travel time.

Is there enough capacity at 179 to turn all (E) and (F) trains there?

I think that there is more than enough space. Remember the (E) and (F) shared the terminal before the Archer line opened.

What a morning it is. Signal problems at:

-Jay St SB for the (A)(C)

-Lex-59 SB for the (N)(Q)(R)

-Mosholu Pkwy AND 161 St SB for the (4)

-Eastern Pkwy Museum NB for the (2)(3)

...and there was a train with mechanical problems at 135 St-Lenox making some (2) trains go via Lex and some NB (2) and (3) trains go to 137-Broadway, but that cleared up.

The N Line information was posted on MTA info on the internet which I looked at after hearing about problems on the N Line in a 6 PM traffic report on the radio.

Two trees down on two different lines tonight. It must be the drought watch which is statewide and was declared last week by the governor as we have 9 months of below average rainfall. (Source Capitol Confidential.com (Albany Times-Union) today and last Friday.

Something's up. Just saw a n/b (D) head over the (Q) tracks on the Manhattan Bridge, along with a s/b (N) running on the (Q) local tracks at DeKalb, and my s/b (B) held on the Bridge for about 15 min with no n/b trains passing by on the (B) / (D) tracks.

Supposedly something about hanging cables at 4 Av-9 Street  (D)  (F)  (G)  (N)  (R) station

Southbound (D) and (N) trains were running local from Atlantic Avenue to 36 Street. Some southbound  (D) and (N) trains were rerouted via the (Q) from DeKalb Avenue to Coney Island. There was delays in botth directions on the  (B)  (D)  (N)  (Q) and  (R) trains.

Due to a sick passenger at 14 St-Union Sq, the following service changes are in effect:

Southbound (6) trains are running express from Grand Central-42 St to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.

Some southbound (2) trains are running on the (5) line from 149 St-Grand Concourse to Nevins St.

Allow additional travel time.

Hopefully this is a typo, otherwise I wouldn't understand why the MTA is adding the (2) into an already bad mess for no reason.

Due to a train with mechanical problems at Broad St, northbound j.png trains are running with delays.

^^^ This has been going on since 6:08PM.... no wonder the (J) seemed to be running like crap when I rode it home this evening....

Yes… but Chambers Street is a viable terminal. Does that station turn trains much less efficiently than Broad Street?

Apparently, when you put a route inside of a circle and diamond, people think their the same line, like (7) and <7>. When you put a different bullet for express designation, everyone thinks it's separate.

Yes, that would make total sense given all the of the naming and numbering conventions of the subway system.

A couple of questions.

I looked at the train schedules and noticed something. There's ten (5) trains that are scheduled to terminate at Crown Heights-Utica avenue, why not just send those trains express to New Lots and go to the yard instead of clogging up the relay at Utica? You'd be giving the riders traveling east of Utica a service boost too. The (3) isn't as frequent as the other IRT lines in bk and there's a yard behind the station that could help with potential congestion.

Is because you can get trains back onto Lexington faster if they end at Utica as opposed to NLTS?

Also, why do the (B) and (5) trains end their Brooklyn service earlier than the (C) ? It looks like they all have similar ridership numbers in BK, is there a specific reason why they end earlier?

Due to switch problems at Queensboro Plaza, the following service changes are in effect:

There is no q.png service between 57 St-7 Av and Queensboro Plaza in both directions.

Some northbound n.png trains terminate at 57 St-7 Av.

s.png Shuttle train service runs between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd.

As an alternative, customers can take the 7.png train between Times Sq-42 St and Queensboro Plaza.

Take the r.png for 5 Av-59 St and Lexington Av-59 St

Some northbound n.png trains are running on the r.png line from Lexington Av-59 St to Queens Plaza and terminate.

Northbound n.png and q.png trains are running on the r.png line from DeKalb Av to Canal St.

Expect delays on n.pngq.png and r.png trains.

Allow additional travel time.

They also had (B) and (D) trains running on the (C) from West 4th to 59th, and there were also delays on the Bronx part of the line due to a stalled train. Getting home sure was fun today...
