In this particular scenario, that makes sense. (A) riders could take the rerouted (C) to connect to the Queens only (A) at Broadway Junction

Exactly!

This is why the (C) would remain 480' trains, just in case this particular scenario comes up.

They could just transfer at 14th Street for the (L) or Fulton Street for the (J) . There's no need for the (C) to do that reroute.

Disagree.  It takes pressure off the (J) and (L) having the (C) running south of West 4th via Broadway Junction in a situation like that.

What pressure? What is it with you wanting the (C) to run via the (J) to Broadway Junction?

In this case, expecting (A) and (C) riders to pile on already crowded (J) and (L) trains, isn't a good idea without adding extra capacity.

I agree that his (C) to Broadway Junction fetish is ridiculous but this is the one time where I can see it working.

Will nobody think of the 6 Avenue local? It’s trading frustration on the (J)(L) for frustration on the (C)(E)(F)(M).

Yes, but the (C) in that situation gets many of the (A) riders heading to eastern Queens over to Broadway Junction where they can then transfer to the (A) to continue east from there and at least cut down on overcrowding on the (J)(L) and shuttle buses.

That, BTW is also why I would in Phases 1-2 of extending ALL Eastern Division Stations to 600 feet first do all such on the (M) and then do the same to Broadway Junction so the (M) can operate as 600' trains at all times and the (C) as a 600' train can also do so in an emergency.

Service Change  Posted: 11/25/2016  7:28AM

Due to FDNY activity at Kingston-Throop Avs, the following service changes are in effect:

Southbound (A) and (C) trains are running on the (D) line from 59 St-Columbus Circle to W 4 St-Wash Sq, then via (F) to Jay St-MetroTech.

Southbound (C) trains are running express from Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts to Broadway Junction.

Expect delays on (A), (C), (D) and (F) trains.

Allow additional travel time.

Let me add this one to the "one for the books" crowd!

Due to a problem at Steinway Street, M trains are running express from Queens Plaza to Jackson Heights Roosevelt Avenue

R trains are running express from QUEENSBORO PLAZA to Jackson Heights - Roosevelt Avenue.

It is painfully obvious that the one who is writing this information knows absolutely nothing about our system!

An (R) train can't do that... Well... it could, but it wouldn't make it past 61st Street on the Flushing line

It could make it through, assuming the train picks up enough speed to ram through the station without derailing at the curves and switches.

They also were sending (N) and (Q) trains down West End to fill the gap

The MTA on its website just a couple of minutes ago is reporting a broken rail on the northbound express track at 8th Street as the reason that all northbound Q trains are running local from Canal Street to 34th Street.

At around 1:12 PM, it was still a problem. I wanted down there for 10 minutes but the crowd only got bigger. According to the announcements, (R) trains were running via 6 Avenue. The problem might’ve been serious. I saw track workers in the field at 12:25 PM in front of a (Q) train packed with people. Does it really take that long to replace a broken rail? And one track being out shouldn’t cause too much trouble since the line has 4.
