This looks inconsistent. So where exactly is the (F) being cut? If there is work at Bergen Street, how is service possible from Jay Street–MetroTech to Coney Island–Stillwell Avenue?

The segment that is out of service is 2 Avenue to Jay Street–MetroTech though. So Bergen Street is within the segment that’s still in service.

Based on the fact that the (G) was also affected, they were probably single-tracking for a stretch, and the work probably took out the entire upper level.

That was a miscommunication. The plan had (F) trains turning north at 2nd Ave and turning south at 4th -- the project was a reboot of Bergen St interlocking. In the end, they just held service for 20 mins or so and turned one (F) at 2nd Ave. (G) service just got held.

There are service changes and delays in (C) , (E) , (F) and (M) train service while we work to move a train that had its brakes activated at Lexington Av-53 St.

There is no northbound local train service along 8 Av.

Northbound (C) trains are running express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle.

Northbound (E) trains are stopping along the (F) line from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.

Some northbound (F) trains are stopping along the (G) line from Bergen St to Court Sq then along the (E) line to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.

Some 71 Av-bound (M) trains are stopping along the (F) line from 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr to 36 St (Qns).

Some 71 Av-bound (M) trains are stopping along the (J) line from Delancey St-Essex St and ending at Chambers St.

How is the (F) fitting on the (G)'s platforms?

Just now, CyclonicTrainLookout said:

The (G) platforms are wide enough to fit a 5-car set like those on the (F). It's just that half of the platforms between Court Square and Hoyt-Schermerhorn aren't used since the (G) are half the length of a typical IND train.

The (F) runs 8-car sets I thought...

What I don't understand on this service change is why the (C)s are affected.

I believe it's because of the switches. Trying to place the switches into the correct position south of West 4th Street would put extra strain on the switch, and potentially cause it to fail. Instead of switching it for (E) or (C) trains, the switching back and forth between 6th and 8th Avenues, the switch can be placed solely towards the 6th Avenue local tracks. That means that the (C) needs to run express. Remember, the (E) operates approximately every 4 minutes.

(F) runs 600' trains (so either 10x60' or 8x75'). (G) line platforms were built for those lengths, they just aren't used fully as @CyclonicTrainLookout says.

I think it has more to do with avoiding a one-station merge. There would be no benefit for a (C) to share tracks with an (E) for just one station to serve Spring Street. It would be best to keep trains out of each other's way in such a shuffle.

Multiple Impacts

There are service changes and delays in (A) and Rockaway Park (S) trains while NYPD conducts an investigation at the South Channel Bridge

There is no (A) train service between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av or Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St in both directions.

Far Rockaway-bound (A) trains are ending at Howard Beach-JFK Airport or Euclid Av

Rockaway Park (S) trains will run between Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Far Rockaway-Mott Av in both directions.

LIRR is cross-honoring between Jamaica and Far Rockaway

Travel Alternatives:

There is no (A) service south of Broad Channel. Consider taking the Q52 and Q22 buses that operate between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av. Here are directions: http://bit.ly/2kXSxCs

For service between Rockaway Blvd and the Rockaways, consider taking the nearby Q52-SBS bus to/from Beach 60 St: http://bit.ly/2EQ8CDQ or the nearby Q53-SBS bus for service to/from Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St: http://bit.ly/2J7if6n

I hope you’re joking. (G) platforms are the standard IND length, so there’s no reason the (F) couldn’t stop there.

Very convenient for people going to Far Rockaway.

I hope you’re being sarcastic, as that has precisely nothing to do with Far Rockaway.
