Unplanned Subway Service Changes

That was a pretty decent way of handling that issue IMO ( (L) via Jamaica Exp to Chambers Street). I'm guessing the thinking here was that since it was rush hour, and they wanted to get people south of Broadway Junction into Manhattan at least. Simultaneously, heading express reduced the amount of delays because of people wondering where the train is going.

Also nukes the argument of eliminating train operators at least until the whole B Division is CBTC equipped.

and even after full implementation. because then the trains have to be returned to their home lines/yards after the service outage is remedied

You could just have LOs who work the yard - like @Trainmaster5 used to do, and/or you could run it like AirTrain and the driverless systems do when their consists have to go into the yard.

There are ATO systems that do computerized/automated switching - they're just not in NY outside of Port Authority.

There are delays and multiple impacts to (J) and (M) service due to an investigation on the Williamsburg Bridge.

(J) trains are running in two sections:

  • Limited service between Broad St and Essex St
  • Between Marcy Av and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer

There is no (J) service between Essex St and Marcy Av. Broad St-bound (J) trains will also end at Broadway Junction or Myrtle Av to reduce congestion.

  • Between Forest Hills-71 Av and 2 Av on the (F) line
  • Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av

There is no (M) service between Broadway-Lafayette St and Myrtle Av.

Expect delays in both directions.

Alternatives:

For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, consider using (A) , (C) or (L) service.

Transfer between (J)/(M) and (A)/(C) trains at Broadway Junction and Fulton St.

Transfer between (J) and (L) trains at Broadway Junction and between (L) and (M) trains at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs or 14 St.

For service between Marcy Av and Essex St over the Williamsburg Bridge, consider using B39 bus service.

(F) Some Reroutes

Some northbound (F) trains are running express from Kings Hwy to Church Av because of a signal malfunction at Ditmas Av.

Posted: 3/12/20 6:25 PM

Don't you mean to Smith–9 Streets? Any train still on the express track north of Ditmas Avenue must continue express past 7 Avenue.

It's been quite a while since there was some incident on the QBL, but it delivered today. Almost every time something happens, it tends to be at this location too...
