There is no (6) train service between 3 Av - 138 St and Pelham Bay Park while we work to correct a signal malfunction near a switch at Hunts Point Av.

Some (6) trains will end at 3 Av - 138 St, where they will turn around for Manhattan-bound service.

The remaining (6) trains will end at 149 St - Grand Concourse on the (4) line, then turn around for Manhattan-bound service.

There is no (6) train service between 3 Av - 138 St and Parkchester while we work to correct a signal malfunction near a switch at Hunts Point Av.

Some Bronx-bound (6) trains will end at 3 Av - 138 St, where they will turn around for Manhattan-bound service.

The remaining Bronx-bound (6) trains will end at 149 St - Grand Concourse on the (4) line, then turn around for Manhattan-bound service.

(6) trains are operating shuttle service between Parkchester and Pelham Bay Park.

For alternative subway service, consider transferring to a (5) train at 125 St, or taking the Bx2 or Bx15 buses from 3 Av - 138 St.

For local bus service north of Parkchester, consider the Bx4, Bx24, or Bx12.

TRAINS REROUTED  Posted: 06/27/2020  1:58PM

Northbound (N) trains are running on the (R) line from Atlantic Av - Barclays Ctr to Canal St while we conduct structural improvements in Manhattan. At Canal St, board (N) trains on the (R) platform.

Some northbound (R) trains are running on the (D) line after DeKalb Av to W 4 St - Wash Sq and then on the (M) line to 36 St to reduce congestion. There is reduced northbound service on the (R) line between those stations.

Expect extensive delays on northbound (N) , (Q) and (R) trains.

Alternatives

For alternate service in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, consider taking (2) , (3) or (4) trains. Transfer between trains at Atlantic Av - Barclays Ctr and 14 St - Union Sq.

For service in Brooklyn and Midtown, transfer to (D) trains at Atlantic Av - Barclays Ctr or (F) trains at Jay St - MetroTech (where (R) and rerouted (N) trains will stop).

For alternate service to (Q) stations on 2nd Ave, take (4) and (6) trains. Transfer between trains at 14 St - Union Sq.

For alternate service between Manhattan and Queens, take (E) and (7) trains. Transfer between trains at Times Sq - 42 St and Jackson Hts - Roosevelt Av.

Structural improvements? How is the (N) affected but not the (Q)?

That is strange since the MTA websites states:

Quote

(Q) trains are running approximately every 10 minutes between 96 St and Coney Island - Stillwell Av.

But there is work ongoing that is forcing trains to skip 49 Street.

Here’s probably the real reason:

Quote

(N) trains provide connecting service in Brooklyn between 4 Av-9 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, during weekend planned work on the Culver Line Signal Modernization Project.

The (N) would serve to reduce the wait time for (F) and (G) passengers continuing their trip to/from Coney Island.

What a work train was doing there at this time, I have no clue:

PART SUSPENDED  Posted: 06/29/2020  1:52PM

Brooklyn-bound (B) and (D) trains are delayed and rerouted while our crews troubleshoot a mechanical problem on a work train on the Manhattan Bridge.

Southbound (D) trains are running on the (F) line from Broadway-Lafayette St to Coney Island - Stillwell Av. There is southbound service on the (D) line between those stations.

There is no southbound (B) service from Broadway-Lafayette St to Coney Island - Stillwell Av. All southbound (B) trains will end at 2 Av on the (F) line.

ALTERNATIVES

For service from the Bronx to Brooklyn, consider transferring to (4) trains at 161 St - Yankee Stadium. Take a (4) train to Atlantic Av - Barclays Ctr, where you can take (N) trains for nearby stations in Brooklyn.

For alternate service in Manhattan, consider transferring to downtown (A) , (C) and (1) trains at 59 St - Columbus Circle or (N) and (Q) trains at 34 St - Herald Sq.

For alternate service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, transfer to (N) and (Q) trains at 34 St - Herald Sq. Or if you've transferred to an (A) , (C) or (1) train, transfer to (N) and (Q) trains at Times Sq - 42 St/42 St - Port Authority Bus Terminal

For alternate service along the (B) line in Brooklyn, use (Q) trains.

For alternate service along the (D) line in Brooklyn between Atlantic Av - Barclays Ctr and 36 St (and at 62 St), use (N) trains.

For alternate southbound service from (D) train stations between 9 Av and Bay 50 St, take a northbound train to 62 St or 36 St and transfer to a southbound train. For southbound service to those stations, take a southbound train (N) train to 62 St or Coney Island - Stillwell Av and transfer to a northbound (D) train.

Also consider taking these crosstown buses between (D) line stations in Brooklyn and nearby subway stations:
-50 St and 55 St : Take B16 buses to/from Fort Hamilton Pkwy on the (N) line or Church Av on the (F) line.
-18 Av, 20 Av, Bay Pkwy and 25 Av : Take B1 buses to/from 86 St on the (N) line.

Sometimes a work train is just an OOS passenger train.

There was an incident earlier this year where a broken down "work train" in the 60th st tube caused extensive delays on Broadway.

When my train was held to allow the train to enter city hall lower level yard, I saw the "work train" was an OOS R46 (R) train.

Did it get stuck at the bottom because it was unable to climb back up the tube?

I have heard that sometimes those work diesels do have trouble climbing the incline on bridges, when they have an heavy load. One got stuck in the cranberry tubes a couple of years ago, it was CWR train and I guess those little yellow locomotives didn't have enough power to pull them up the incline...

https://www.amny.com/transit/a-c-train-service-1-20269157/

I have seen those work diesels traveling though the system during the midday hours before, I once photographed one on the (A) line EL coming from either Lefferts or Far Rock going N/B. I love the horns on those work diesels, they have the same horn as NJT Arrow 3 cars and the PA series PATH trains.

Multiple Impacts

There are delays and multiple impacts in (Q) service while we remove fallen tree branches from the tracks at Beverley Rd and Avenue H.

Northbound (Q) trains are stopping along the (N) line from Coney Island - Stillwell Av to DeKalb Av.

For service to/from bypassed stations, use southbound (Q) trains.

Continue to expect delays in (B) and (Q) train service in both directions.

What sucks is the Subway Time data seems to go blank past midnight, so you can't see where available trains are. If anyone gets stuck because they have to go northbound, might as well make their way to the B99 bus.

TRAINS REROUTED  Posted: 06/30/2020 11:51PM

Southbound (A) trains are running on the (D) line from 59 St - Columbus Circle to W 4 St - Wash Sq , then via the (F) line to Jay St - MetroTech while crews continue to investigate a train that had its brakes activated at Canal St.

For bypassed stations, take a northbound train.

Expect delays in (E) train service.

Last trains may leave their terminals as early as 12 AM. You can find the last scheduled trains for each station at mta.info/overnight.
