Today I was stuck in the (N) train for around 12 minutes between 20th Av and Bay Pkwy on the Coney Island bound side, and the R160B announcement said that the train will be at slower speed due to an "earlier incident"! Does anyone know what was going on during that time?

This happened around 3:31pm.

How does NJT cross-honor PATH tickets if you pay for PATH with MetroCard or Smartlink and not cash? Do you like go to the PATH station agent and get a ticket or something?

PATH doesn't have station agents.

You probably just show your MetroCard or Smartlink card on NJT, and the conductor takes your word that you were planning to ride PATH.

This is interesting:

Due to a water main break between 51st St and 59th St, please expect delays in both directions on 4.gif, 5.gif and 6.gif train service at this time.

How is service not suspended?

Service was back to normal around 30 minutes later. The buses were put on detour when the first alert was issued and remain on detour more than an hour later.

Due to loss of power from the Central Park North-110 Street Station to the 72 Street Station:

There is no 1.gif train service in both directions from the 137 Street-City College Station and the Times Square-42nd Street Station.

Downtown 2.gif trains are running on the 5.gif line from the 149 Street-Grand Concourse Station to the Nevins Street Station.

There is no 3.gif train service in both directions from the Harlem-148 Street Station to the Times-Square-42 Street Station.

Please expect delays on the 2.gif. 3.gif and 5.gif trains delayed at this time.

This sounds like something out of the "What If" thread. All that's missing is the completely unnecessary (C) reroute.

Seriously though, I hope that this is fixed before the PM rush or at the least they add additional trains on Central Park West and buses on the M104 route.

There was plenty of bunching and uneven crowds on the Brooklyn IRT well into the evening rush...

:lol::lol: Yeah, if certain people (we all know who) were in charge of the MTA, the (C) would be somewhere out near Broadway Junction on the (J) tracks by now... Edited by TheSubwayStation

Did that really happen today?

Man, if I had stayed one more hour in school, I would have been stuck in a tunnel.

Beating the Heat

Severe heat can affect subway and train signals and overhead power lines. Elevator and escalator service may also be reduced to cut energy consumption.

StayingCool.jpg

New York City Transit (NYCT) customers should monitor our "Service Status" box on the MTA's homepage and plan their trips accordingly. Customers who use stations with elevators and escalators should also monitor the NYCT Elevator & Escalator Status page for equipment outages and updates.

The New York Power Authority implements Peak Load Management (PLM) to reduce electrical demand during high usage periods, usually from noon to 6:00 p.m. New York City Transit does its part and reduces power consumption by shutting down some substations that supply traction power. This means subways go a little slower.

In offices at all MTA agencies, power consumption is reduced by turning off unessential office and shop lights and any office machines that can be spared. Air conditioning systems are turned up a few degrees too.

At Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road departure terminals like Grand Central, Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal, conductors keep every other train door closed until just before departure to keep cool air in and warm air out.

Slow speed orders will be issued when necessary, especially on Metro-North's New Haven Line, which is powered by overhead catenary wires that droop in extreme heat. Trains are slowed so that pantographs – arm-like apparatus on the roof of the trains that draw the power from the catenary - do not get ensnared in catenary wires. Employees of both railroads are asked to report hot cars and roving air-conditioning crews are dispatched to make needed repairs.

Throughout the MTA's system, crews remain at the ready if there are any heat-related issues impacting service. While we will do everything possible to minimize any impact and inconvenience, we advise our customers to allow extra time for their commutes, dress appropriately for the hot weather, and check the MTA website or local radio or television stations for the latest service information before starting their trip.

This is interesting. What will make the subway trains run slower? Slow speed orders, or will the motors work less well?

Due to a police investigation at the 42nd Street-Grand Central Station :

Downtown 4and 6 train service is running express from 42nd Street-Grand Central Station to the 14th Street-Union Square Station.

Downtown 4train service is bypassing the Bowling Green Station.

Please expect delays on the 4and 6 train service at this time.

I don't get it.If the investigation is at 42nd st why do Downtown 4,s have to skip Bowling Green?

Sometimes MTA typos are careless. Sometimes they're really really funny.

Due to a switch problem at the 39 Street- Bee Bee Station, there is no N.gif or Q.gif train service between the Queensboro Plaza station and the Astoria-Ditmars Blvd Station at this time.

Due to a train with mechanical problems at the Broad Channel Satation, I've been stuck in a Far Rockaway-bound (A) train t the Howard Beach Station for over 15 minutes. I could only imagine that this will disrupt (A)(C) and (S) service throughout the day...

Update: We've been kicked off the train with no further instructions. I can only assume that this means no (A) or (S) trains between Howard Beach and Far Rockaway/Rockaway Park for the time being.
