General Order Riddles

This is a hybrid thread that takes ideas from the popular "Route Riddles" and "What If" threads. What must be done is service changes/diversion will be listed, along with the time of day and week, and guesses will be made as per what track(s) are OoS. One can use the current diversions or any made-up ones. Correct answers can post their own stuff, you know the drill...

For instance...

Midnites 12a-5a

(Q) via Whitehall both directions, (D) split service - 205th-2Av, Whitehall St - Stillwell.

Are you saying the Q train track at DeKalb Avenue would be out-of-service in the above situation since the D usually stops at that track during those hours? If so, wouldn't it make more sense to reroute the D via the DeKalb Ave bypass like it runs during normal hours to avoid the split D service?

Nope, wrong area of track.

Great idea Two-Timer.

All four Manhattan Bridge tracks OOS. No service at Canal St bridge platforms. No service at Grand/Chrystie Sts.

Did you mean me rather than Rtrainblues? Two-Timer said correct on the bridge and I was the first to mention the bridge. He also said made-up diversions are ok, trainguy97.

Anyway, we will figure it out. Try this: Overnight hours, no (F) service between Queensbridge and Forest Hills, no (E) between 23 St-Ely Ave and Parsons/Archer, (G) extended to Parsons/Archer as the replacement.

Made-up diversions are perfectly fine, but indicate the time of day to reduce the possible number of answers or amount of tracks OoS, it'll make it easier on the rest of us. We may not want to assume everything is during rush hour.

63 street connector!

The track between 23-Ely and Queens Plaza on the E line would be out of service in that instance, since it seems only the G would be able to get to Queens Plaza & stations further east.

One more section. Hint: Y'all have yet to mention the longest section of track that would be out of service in this situation but is normally in service during overnight hours.

Manhattan bound express tracks are OOS from 67th Avenue to Queens Plaza and Jamaica bound express tracks are OOS from Queens Plaza to 71-Continental Avenues.

alejr88, you are exactly correct. You can go.

Note to others: When solving riddles that I post, it is not a problem if your answers are not as exact as alejr88's. Other people have different policies, but I am just letting you know that it is not a problem when solving my riddles and noting the fact that alejr88's answer was very exact.

Maybe when I answer somebody's riddle I should try to outdo alejr88's exactitude. :)

When I first made my rail debut I ran only on 2 boroughs. It seems starting at 12am to 5am I get to do it once again, however I will run in an unfamiliar zone going southbound. There's a third borough that I run to but I've been split in half and thus cannot make it there. The train that stops regularly at the station that I am going to terminate is going to terminate somewhere else just to save me all the trouble. Who am I, what is the G.O. and which of my tracks are not in service?

Posted

Good grief! I have to attempt to solve this one in a few pieces and I will attempt to restrict my questions to yes/no questions. Does the route normally operate on IND trackage in Manhattan?

Posted

Yeah it's the (D).

When I first made my rail debut I ran only on 2 boroughs. The 2 boroughs are The Bronx and Manhattan.

This seems tough for most posters, Brooklyn IRT do you know what the G.O. is right?

On the one hand you allude to the idea that this already happened, but on the other hand I do not seem to remember the (E) being displaced from WTC for a 6th Ave Fastrack. Although I do not keep up with every detail of every Fastrack. The (E) is the only line that would have to be displaced in order for a train to terminate at its terminus, because Second Ave is a four track station and there is no need to displace the (F) so that the (D) can terminate there.

So it is a 6th Ave Fastrack and the 6th Ave express tracks are OOS from Columbus Circle to the Manhattan Bridge. The (D) terminates at WTC, displacing the (E). The (E) has to terminate elsewhere.
