mark1447 Posted May 10, 2012 #1 Posted May 10, 2012 The Extension Project, now 65 percent complete, has just received its first set of rails. Each rail delivered to the extension site is 390 feet in length and weighs approximately 15,000 pounds. Each delivery consists of only four rails because of their weight. The rails are delivered with a work train leaving the Linden Shop in Brooklyn. The trip takes about 48 hours from loading to unloading because it only travels during the midnight shift in order to avoid interrupting passenger service.
youngblaze Posted May 10, 2012 #2 Posted May 10, 2012 For public relations purposes this is great I love the transparency that the TA is offering to the public.
T to Dyre Avenue Posted May 11, 2012 #4 Posted May 11, 2012 Agree about the videos. It is very important for the MTA to be more transparent with the public. This is a good move on their part.
mtattrain Posted May 11, 2012 #5 Posted May 11, 2012 So THAT's what they use continuous welded rail cars for...
GojiMet86 Posted May 11, 2012 #6 Posted May 11, 2012 So THAT's what they use continuous welded rail cars for... They bring the rails from the Linden Shops to where ever they are needed.
VWM Posted May 12, 2012 #7 Posted May 12, 2012 I think the best part was where they showed the work train starting its journey
