Via Garibaldi 8 Posted May 11, 2012 #1 Posted May 11, 2012 http://www.myfoxny.com/story/18272162/fort-lee-cops-ticket-texting-pedestrians They need to do this in NYC. This just gives folks carte blanche to be rude morons. You've got these idiots just walking with their heads down and practically walking into you and then they pretend like they don't see you.
B35 via Church Posted May 11, 2012 #2 Posted May 11, 2012 Yeah, I just heard about this while waking up to fox 5 news a few mins. ago.... Good for them.... But the reality is, in a vehicle-pedestrian accident, the blame will always be pinned on the driver somehow.... That isn't me defending pedestrians nonchalantly walking about without a care in the world, as if the world revolves around them, either... I say, if you walk w/ your head down while jaywalking & you get hit by a motor vehicle or a bike, you deserve to suffer any injuries resulting from it....
checkmatechamp13 Posted May 11, 2012 #3 Posted May 11, 2012 There's a difference between being completely oblivious while you're texting and bumping into everybody, whereas actually being aware of your surroundings. I think it's a bit extreme to give a ticket for texting while walking. I mean, texting while driving puts both your life and other's lives at stake, but realistically, what could happen if you text while walking? Unless you're crossing a busy street against the light while looking at your phone or something stupid like that.

They're handing out tickets to pedestrians that are texting while JAYwalking.....
KeystoneRegional Posted May 11, 2012 #6 Posted May 11, 2012 This better be only applicable to jaywalking texters. [if I am on the sidewalk, I shouldn't be ticketed, if I am on the pedestrian crosswalk, it would only be logical for a caution.] If I am ticketed in the situations inside the brackets "[ ]" it would only mean the local gov't is corrupt.

Just like that chick that fell in the manhole because was walking and texting and not paying attention and had the nerve to want to blame the city for how own recklessness... Or better yet the one that fell in the pool because she was walking and texting and not paying attention. People seem to be obsessed with just spacing out these days. I don't know what it is but it is rather sickening. All they care about is their precious little life and screw anyone else.
FamousNYLover Posted May 11, 2012 #8 Posted May 11, 2012 Especially on 34th St, people walk in bus lane, even if B/O from any buses honks at them, they should walk in front of bus, cross in front of bus.
553 Bridgeton Posted May 11, 2012 #9 Posted May 11, 2012 To be honest this is pointless. They should be more focused on the texting while driving issue. I could careless about an idiot who walks right into a car. Aint ma fault, but like B35 said the driver will somehow get the blame. Towns are broke so they want another way to bring in money. Its a waste of time. To be fair, i can almost bet alot of you text and walk at the sametime.
FamousNYLover Posted May 11, 2012 #10 Posted May 11, 2012 Long Island Metro newspaper was right. Every LI towns/villages I go, I see some motorists from charter bus, car drivers texting or talking behind the wheel. Don't they remember the Alex Brown, who was killed because she was texting on her phone and her family has reach out to all the schools across 50 states and they pledge not to text behind the wheel thanks to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. http://www.rememberalexbrownfoundation.org/
Grand Concourse Posted May 11, 2012 #11 Posted May 11, 2012 All about safety my ass. It's about revenue. True, but then again the way some are so buried in their phones, they do deserve to be ticketed.
Joe Posted May 11, 2012 #12 Posted May 11, 2012 True, but then again the way some are so buried in their phones, they do deserve to be ticketed. Do you remember that "thing" from Staten Island (yeah, go figure...) that was texting and fell into a manhole? Holy shit, she was something else.

Like geez, it can't be that hard to see a huge body of water in front of you.
