Quiz/Game: Six Degrees of Bus Separation

Thought it would be cool to discuss the number of routes one would have to ride (degrees of separation) in order to get from one route to another.

For example the Bx10 and Bx29 have 1 degree of separation because a rider can transfer to the Bx28 from the Bx10 and then a rider could transfer to the Bx29 from the Bx28. Bx10->Bx28->Bx29

What other interesting combinations are out there? Routes from different boroughs are preferred.

OK.

Well, the B42 & the M42 have at least 10 degrees of separation! ;)

I don't really see the point.

If you count express buses, then there can't be more than two degrees almost anywhere.

If you don't, I'll choose something like the Bx29 and the S56 and come up with a ridiculously high number.

Just for fun, I ran the numbers on the Bx29-to-S56 pair and it's not that bad. To get from one to the other requires the Q50 to the Q58 to the B57 to the B63 to the S79, and thus the routes have only five degrees of separation. The B42 to the M42 is a bit trickier but again, less than you might think. That requires the B60 to the B62 to the Q60 to the M15, which is only four degrees. Now if you really want to have some fun consider the Bx34 and the Q100 ;)

Q22 to the Bx16 would be funny...

It's actually not too bad:

Q22-Q113-Q44-Bx39-Bx16 (3 degrees)

My first instinct would've been to take the Q53, but then there's no easy way to get into The Bronx from there. I guess Q60-Q44-Bx39-Bx16, but that's still an extra degree.

I can't open up PDF files right now, but I'll try anyway.

Bx34-Bx9/12/22-Bx15-M101/102/103-Q60/Q101-Q100

So that's 4 degrees of separation.

With local buses 6:

You could take the S79 instead of the S53 as well.

For the M5, you could take it to the Bx7/M100, take that to the Bx12, and then take the Bx29 from there (so 2 degrees)

How about B31 to Bx16?
