Trainspotter 0 Posted July 10, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2008 All aboard for hi-tech train ticket Metro-North Railroad riders will soon be able to buy tickets onboard trains using credit and debit cards - the first program of its kind anywhere, officials said Wednesday. The railroad is outfitting all of its conductors with hand-held ticket machines and receipt printers. Riders will still have to continue paying cash for the next three or four months before the credit/debit program kicks in. And traditional hole punchers will still be used for tickets purchased from vending machines to show they have been used, as well as for those seat-check tabs indicating a ticket has been checked. They'll also be backup in case of mechanical malfunctions. Full story: - July 10, 2008

Stamford516Guy 0 Posted July 10, 2008 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2008 Interesting... a conductor outfitted with one of these thought there may be a problem in the future, because the only person who vetoed the use of these machines is also the incoming president of MNRR. Sorry I don't know the name.
Pablo M 201 35 Posted July 11, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2008 Wait, I thought they were suppose to do this long ago? Guess it died out and now MNRR is going through with it this time.
