Mtatransit Posted June 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2012 What is the point of some amtrak train which uses different names but is just a short turn of a longer route Ex:palmetto and silver metor one end in Flordia and other end in savanah why not just call it silver metor. Also alot of the service operate on the same trackage at different time and uses different names. Carolinian and piedmont run at the same track and uses the same station what is the point of all these routes?
NX Express Posted June 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 27, 2012 They're different trains and they run at different times. It would only be confusing. "Wait, this Silver Meteor doesn't go to Miami? I thought you said the Silver Meteor went to Miami!"
Kamen Rider Posted June 27, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 27, 2012 What is the point of some amtrak train which uses different names but is just a short turn of a longer route Ex:palmetto and silver metor one end in Flordia and other end in savanah why not just call it silver metor. Also alot of the service operate on the same trackage at different time and uses different names. Carolinian and piedmont run at the same track and uses the same station what is the point of all these routes? Train 89, the southbound Plametto, leaves New York Penn at 6:15 AM. Train 97, the southbound Silver Metor, leaves New York Penn at 3:15 PM. Train 89 is all coachs Train 97 has sleeping cars. Train 89 is a 15 hour trip end to end Train 97 is a 27 hour trip end to end The Palmetto was one of the three trains of what is now known as "the Silver Service", connecting New York and Florida. up to the 1990s, it took a westerly route to tampa. The name orginates in that it was used the the Atlantic Coast Line, the orignal owner of part of the route the lines travels. It was cut back to Savannah only in the last decade. to turn your argument back againts you, lets look at another route, the old NYC Waterlevel. In the old days you had the Empire State Express and the 20th Century limited. Today you have Empire Service and the Lake Shore Limited. Each train proveds diffrent amenities and services and depart at diffrent times. Where you see diffrent trains sharing a name, that is an attempt at branding. each "Acela" departure is not called "The Acela Express". "Acela Express" is the brand name for trains using the Acela class trainsets. Train 22XX / Train 21XX are these trains actual "names"
