Blitz Posted August 2, 2012 Share #29 Posted August 2, 2012 Environmentalists will hate this. TOO BAD!!!!!!!!!! Too too bad...the funny thing about them is when they start getting all high and mighty about their hybrid cars, they get quiet real quick when you ask then what happens to the batteries that get switched out of their cars... I remember this study they did once that found a Prius, if you considered all of the CO2 involved in getting the batteries built and into the cars, was more polluting to the environment than a Land Rover Disco. It's well-intentioned but everybody turns a blind eye to what happens before they get in the car.

People can feel good about driving a Prius, but how many of them knows the process involved in making those batteries? I would opt more for the cleaner fuel burning types over hybrids. dmouse Posted August 3, 2012 Share #33 Posted August 3, 2012 A natural gas burning or diesel bus will always be cleaner than a hybrid.

transit bx Posted August 3, 2012 Share #35 Posted August 3, 2012 The only line i would think LG have as a high speed line is the Q53 as far as the local line go, all the other local lines out of LG is pretty much a stop and go line like the rest of NYCT line go thur out queens. We have about 17 local lines lin LG, so the Q53 is the only high speed line out of LG.

I think it's a different kind of stop and go, even the most stop-and-go of LGA lines like the Q103, still runs much faster overall than a comparative Manhattan route like the M1 or M3. KeystoneRegional Posted August 4, 2012 Share #38 Posted August 4, 2012 Well, the Q23 has also portions where there is speed. Few areas include: East Elmhurst, Forest Hills and Glendale.

Orion VII 4 Life Posted August 5, 2012 Share #40 Posted August 5, 2012 Doesn't make sense to do this on a SC bus, they're losing their hybrids real soon.
SevenEleven Posted August 5, 2012 Share #41 Posted August 5, 2012 Doesn't make sense to do this on a SC bus, they're losing their hybrids real soon. The same can be said about any bus though. Just because its based at one depot now doesn't mean it'll be running out of another, post conversion.

DJ MC Posted December 17, 2012 Share #47 Posted December 17, 2012 Wow, and they just got those about 2 or 3 years ago too! Now you know why I've been questioning hybrid buses recently and wondering are they really worth all that money versus a diesel bus.

Yes, but this may just be a BAE issue. I doubt the buses themselves are the problem.

jgood6195 Posted December 19, 2012 Share #50 Posted December 19, 2012 OC Transpo is not really a stop and go kind of route system. Well, that's their fault. They should of tested a demo NG hybrid for a few months before buying 177 units.
