RTS CNG Command Posted July 25, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2012 Several months ago, all five MTA bus maps have been cleared, with me cleaning up the Queens Bus Map. Now the old Long Island Bus Map template is cleaned up! https://sites.google...ghybrid/lib-map Each file has an SVG and PDF variation, compatible in Inkscape and Illustrator CS3 (SVGs only)/4/5/5.1 (5.5)/6. One set has the prefix "mapnassaubus-1-blank" while the other has "mapnassaubus-1-really-blank." The reason is because both sets of maps are layered, and I don't know how Inkscape registers layers. So when you open the PDF and SVG files for each, you'll notice some differences, and you may have to clean the "mapnassaubus-1-blank" files just a tiny bit. AirTrain/airport symbol, the "Hospital" backgrounds, subway bullet backgrounds/lines, a station marker, different MTA express green color symbol, etc. are kept intentionally, but hidden from the "mapnassaubus-1-really-blank" preview. If you desire to dispose some of the miscellaneous stuff and clean it up further, you can. In the meantime, enjoy! EDIT: A new update on the map: https://sites.google...redirects=0&d=1 https://sites.google...redirects=0&d=1 I decided to clean it up even further by removing the hospital logo, MTA lines and bullets, and LIRR lines and station locations. The AirTrain symbol, station location window, multi-bus terminal, and green express window are located outside the preview pop-up of the map. You'll have to open Inkscape or Illustrator (for CS4/5/6 only) to see the extras. The PDF is the top link; the SVG is the bottom one.
User Posted July 25, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 25, 2012 Thank you for doing this! What program do you suggest using to add routes to the map? Is there a tutorial for this?
FamousNYLover Posted July 25, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 25, 2012 It's too hard because Nassau County has too many street names.
User Posted July 25, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 25, 2012 It's too hard because Nassau County has too many street names. So? You only need to name the streets that the buses go on. I don't see a reason not to do this!
FamousNYLover Posted July 25, 2012 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2012 That's I meant. With blank map, I don't know which streets buses used.
RTS CNG Command Posted July 25, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted July 25, 2012 Thank you for doing this! What program do you suggest using to add routes to the map? Is there a tutorial for this? There isn't an official tutorial, but the programs I recommend are either Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator (CS4 or higher if you plan to open the PDF; CS3 or higher if you open the SVG file). Inkscape is free; but Adobe Illustrator requires you to buy, and you'll need to look at your computer specifications to see if Illustrator will run properly. I use Illustrator because Inkscape can be really laggy on my iMac, but I recommend whichever vector program works for you. All of the blank maps are located in various spots: 1. The Queens map (which I cleaned up): http://www.nyctransi...s-map-template/ 2. Gorgor's Website: http://www.scaped.net/ Three of the blank maps are under "Custom Maps." 3. This link from Mysterious2Train (containing every clean bus map template but Queens and Nassau county): http://www.nyctransi...-for-christmas/ That's I meant. With blank map, I don't know which streets buses used. I'll help out here. https://sites.google...redirects=0&d=1 <--- The official Nassau Bus Map PDF, with all of the streets and routes labeled. Yuki, the idea is to draw whatever routes you want to on the blank map..... You can always cross-reference street names w/ the google map & any (real) nassau bus map...... User Posted July 25, 2012 Share #8 Posted July 25, 2012 I was talking about adding the routes and the lines along the street and everything, as well as the little squares that give the route number. How do you do that?
