Why did the Bombardier Innovia APM 200 flop?

Recommended Posts

The Bombardier Innovia APM 200 was designed by Bombardier to better compete with the Mitsubishi Crystal Mover. However, the Mitsubishi Crystal Mover continued to outsell it even after it was released. For example, longtime Bombardier customer Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport chose the Crystal Mover over the Innovia APM 200 for the ATL SkyTrain.

Currently, there are only two installations worldwide for the Innovia APM 200: the SkyLink APM at DFW Airport, and the Terminal 5 APM at London Heathrow Airport. A third installation is under construction at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Last year, Bombardier introduced the Innovia APM 300, and the Innovia APM 200 was only introduced six years earlier in 2005. So, I think it is safe to call the Innovia APM 200 a flop, considering that Bombardier already came out with a successor and the fact that the Mitsubishi Crystal Mover greatly outsold it. Hopefully Bombardier can have greater success with the Innovia APM 300.
