Congratulations to everyone who completed and passed all of the necessary requirements, and will be track workers very soon. I took the test back in 2013, but i scored in the low 80's and I am pretty sure that I will not be getting called off the list. I applied again, and I will take it again in 2018. Finger crossed that I score in the high 90's or even 100 would be better. Is there any information any of you guys can give me in regards to any books or prep courses that I should look into so I can ace this exam next time around?

Actually from what i can recall the test was way easier than i expected the study guide just told me about tools that i didnt know about and parts of the tracks i didnt know the name to but none of that was barely on the 3600 test

Thanks Chris! Another thing that I am concerned about is if u notice on the 3600 application it doesn't mention anything about what might be on the test. Next years test goes in to more detail about what may be included on the test. so I just want to make sure that if I study then I study the right material.

This go around seems like the test may be difficult.

The same person who takes your finger print, is the same person who takes your photo? I got some books and stuff from some HR guy  but i feel like he was in a hurry. Im a new hire for sure since i got this fsr and he said to go to my orientation.

So my question is. After u get your books from HR and do your finger prints and a photo taken. You just drop off that paper on the mail box of HR person who saw You and that's it you're on your way? It was 6pm when I did all of this so the whole place was a ghost town lol I feel....underwhelmed  aftrer waiting  8 hours...

You know that there is a thread for that exam coming up next year, right? It can be found here. Therefore, as per the rules of the site, please stay on-topic...thank you...

If you look at the Notice of Examination for Exam 8600, and if you look at this, this and this NYPD Test Preparation Kits, you should be set, especially with the memorization portion. To this date, I haven't found a Track Worker prep book that contains a memorization portion. And again, please stay on-topic...

No. You go into a separate room for that, if anything. As far as the second question, I don't know the answer...sorry...

Yes that's it you can go.  Thankfully my Hr person was out his office after my fingerprints and photo. Just gave it to him. When is your class?

I don't know, things might have changed compared to when I went through this in early 2014...

Fingerprint person takes a separate photo as part of the fingerprinting process. Photo for a pass is taken right before in a separate room.

I was sworn in when the HR? lady looked over my 21 page booklet in detail (alone with me in an office) and also added my info into her computer.

Congrats. Nice we will be in the same class.

They take two pictures. One in that room for your pass and another when you get fingerprinted. That fingerprint/picture  lady is mad cool.

I should have indicated that i was sworn in for electrical helper provisional, not track worker. Just answering a question about the process.

Thanks for the replies... I mean I sat down with HR rep. He input all info to pc I don't remember being sworn in. Lol  regardless I'll go in soon just to see whatsup and update the thread for any future users who may be going through the same thing. All I know is the HR  rep  Gave me all my paper for orientation  and the days to come in and I did finger print.

As long as you have your orientation date to start, don't worry about a thing. I'll be in this Nov. 27th class too. I'm hoping my high list # will get me the highest seniority for the mini pick.

Whats a mimi pick

From what I understand, it is when you choose your work location, possibly work time (days or nights), and your specialist aka dual rate title.  For those already on the job: If I didn't explain this right, please correct me.

Every 2-3 years all Track employees participate in what’s called a “general pick”. A list of reporting locations (quarters) is generated and title availability at said locations. As you probably guessed, Seniors get to pick first.

The “mini pick” is done when new hires come out of training. Same basic rules apply (your list number dictates if you get to pick first relative to everyone in that class). 9 times out of 10 the mini pick won’t go the way you want (99% Chance you won’t get days, and desired location is also a crap shoot).

The mini pick can also be invalidated if the general pick comes right after it.  I.E, if your mini pick is in April and the general pick comes in June, don’t get too comfortable.
