Track Worker 3600 Hiring Process

Recommended Posts

Thanks YoungNYCsubwayFan for that input.

Makes sense because how else could they establish list numbers for people with same scores.

It used to be drug screening first, then physical. When I was called years ago the letter said it was for an "interview" or something like that.I showed up at Livingston St that day and all I did was pee in a cup and went home. Once cleared they called all the ones that passed our drug tests back for our physicals. A lot of guys failed that pee test. Not sure they do it like this anymore but expect a drug test...

When I reported to 180 Livingston Street this time last year (January 2014) for the first time in order to be processed as a Bus Operator, they also had us pee in a cup and that was it. This makes sense because if you fail the drug test, they don't want to waste any more time or money on you.

Thanks YoungNYCsubwayFan for that input.

You're welcome.

When you guys say going in for the "Physical", you mean medical stuff like heart rate check etc?.....or like an actual physical ability test like push ups or lifting something.......or is there no such test for track workers?

Go back to the previous page (page 30) and read post # 293 for the answer.

How long after do they call back after you just pee in a cup and leave donthey call back for the physical

When I went for my physical this time last year, they said to expect a call within two to ninety (that's 2 to 90) calendar days.

Now keep in mind that the drug test (aka pee in the cup) is only valid for 30 days. Therefore, when I went for the physical:

#1) I took the initial drug test on November 7th, 2013 for the first time.

#2) I got a call saying to take another drug test, which took place on December 19th, 2013. My 'physical' took place on December 31st, 2013.

#3)As a result of being placed on medical hold, which resulted in me seeing a specialist, etc. I had to take a third drug test on January 21st, 2014. I went for Final Processing that Friday, January 24th and got sent to Zerega on February 10th, 2014.

Hope this helps.

From post #50 of the Track Worker Exam 5016 thread (http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/11393-any-updates-on-track-worker-exam-5016/page-5):

"I'd PM G83 with these questions. He just got hired 8 months ago and probably still remembers the process. I'm not sure how the process works now, but I can tell you what I remember from getting hired 17yrs ago. The first letter I recieved said to come down for interview(or something like that). Showed up and was told to pee in a cup. That's all we did. Told us to go home and wait for the next letter. Next letter came and said to show up for medical. Went down there and noticed half the guys that pee'd the first time weren't there. The surprise pee test knocked out half the canidates. Medical tests were for : Vision(if you wear glasses bring them), Hearing, Lungs(spirometer), Blood pressure, Hernia(yep, turn your head and cough), Heart(stethoscope back then, now probably EKG). I probably forgot some stuff but thats all I can remember. If you pass all the tests they'll give you a date to show up to school. If you fail some tests they'll give you a little time to fix it EG: If your fail the eye test(this happened to me) they'll let you go to the eye doctor to try to fix the problem(glasses etc..). Then you come back and have to pass the test you failed. There were no physical lifting tests. If you have any more questions I'll try to answer them. Good luck. "

The notice of examination for B/O Exam 2613 said something very similar. When I went in for medical, the following happened:

(From Bus Operator Exam 2613 thread, page 462, post #4611: http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/34980-bus-operator-exam-2613-questions/page-462)

"it consists of more paperwork, a survey on their computer about your past(y/n questions) and health history,  a hearing test, they take your blood pressure and weight, then they take your urine for sugar, blood and other things not drug related that may indicate health issues, then they do the EKG and finally you do your vision test. once thats done you see their doctor he listens to your lungs, makes you stand on one leg/then the other, he makes you squat, walk on your toes/heals, checks your throat and decides whether your qualified or not. you take the paperwork back to the front counters and you do your interview, take your photos for your id/ and you do fingerprints and photo again. then your done. they give you your pension packet, life insurance documents and a whole bunch of other paperwork for the union and they tell you when to report."

If the TA Physician finds something wrong, just like how the Physician diagnosed me with Muscle Spasm in my legs, they will place you on Medical Hold and tell you to come back with a letter from a doctor stating that the medical condition is under control.

In addition, for those who do go for medical, perhaps you can give us feedback as far as what the TA Physicians are specifically looking for?

Good to hear things are actually moving forward with the track worker list. I figured a lot of people were going to take the test and pass it.. I probably should have went over my answers for a second time since I had tons of time left after the test... still scored in the 90s... my list number was in the lower 4000s (pretty high in my mind but considering people are in the 7000s, I'll take it).

I did my part... took the test, passed, and made the list.. if they get to me they get to me.

I took the Police Communications Technicians Exam in December... (the process was totally different) We basically took a computerized test at one of their testing centers and we got our score right after the test. I believe 70% was passing so I definitely passed the test. I know with the 911 Operators... they tend to higher people fast because a lot of people don't stay because of the mandatory over time, etc. I know a few people that took the last PCT test and they were on the job in months.

The only question for me will be... if I get called (which most likely will be the case) for the 911 Operators before Transit calls... will I leave the Police Communications Technicians job for Transit Track Worker.

Anybody knows how they go about the last 10 years of employment i' got fired from two jobs in my work history ?

When I went for employment processing for B/O exam 2613, I had to disclose my work history which included getting fired from one job and getting laid off from another.

They did not ask me in detail about this, nor emphasize the negatives associated with getting fired.

Therefore, IMHO, I would not worry about it. Things happen in life.

Wow! The year just started and based on one of the candidates on the board they said the list number is atleast up to between 100-110 (probably higher now). That's great news for us all! I scored a 85% with a 7000's list number so I didn't do as well as I would have liked, but everything happens for a reason so I'll stay positive that at this rate I get called eventually.

All the guys who started the process please keep us all updated to the latest news about the hiring process and what to expect. Good luck to all on the list!

I'm sure it'll be a significant delay if they have to redo the list. The only positive about the situation is if you scored higher than the people who received unearned points, you should get a lower list number.
