This 21 page booklet isnt easy at all.

Just fill it out and don't lie they don't give a sh£t about your past as long as you have cleared up and satisfied any legal problems you've had but if you lie and they look into your background and find out you lied it doesn't matter how long you have been working it can be 6 years down the road and they can and will let you go for lying so just be honest

Today started actual track class blows the first two days outta the water guy I have is mad cool and it's a lot more interesting it's what we are gonna be doing got boots today not so bad especially since they are free day went much quicker and thinks it's only gonna get better good luck everyone and stay clean and by the way if you are trying to get your blood pressure in check make it a life change you get a physical every year and they can give you a random physical as well as drug test even while in your training class

I agree it's good to take care of your health. The job will take a toll on you especially nights and in capital.

However, Unless a yearly physical is something for new for new hires only RTO (Train Operators) and Bus operators are the only departments that requires a physical every year.

In Maintenance of Way Track dept. you get a physical when you are hired or promoted. You are subject to random drug tests at anytime, even if out sick or service connected injury during your normal work hours.

The only time a Track worker may get a physical is if they pick a specialist operator job such a crane operator or pay loader. Even then I've never heard of them going for one yearly.

When I had my NYS department of labor class A asbestos abatement license thru Transit (I was in a cable gang abating the old asbestos wrapped cables) we only went for a chest X ray once a year.

Please stop with the misleading information. It is very annoying.

We're here to help each other and Dunnlick is on to something.

I started as a Track worker when I was 22. I'm 45 now.

I had no kids, no second job, nothing requiring my attention other then my girl friend and pet fish at home.

I tried showing the old timers I could pull my weight with the He-man acts, tried keeping on the bosses good side carrying as much as I could handle. Plus, I didn't want to make to many trips up and down.

Now I have bursitis, a bad back, calcium deposit in the rotor cuff, etc.

Don't be a show off to much trying to prove yourself. There's plenty of time for proving your self.

For some guys this job if all they have going for them and it's their life.

Let the other guys help if they offer. It shows your a team player and you get to know the other guys.

Lunch, by the book, is between the 4th & 6th hour. In reality, by the time you get on the Track, get set up and start working lunch comes after the job is done close to morning time. Once in awhile you'll get a easy night and the foreman lets a few guys break off and rotate going to get something but usually the men vote to work straight thru.

Point I'm making is most guys would eat heavy in the morning after work and then rest and go home and go straight to sleep. The guys with kids had it even harder and pretty soon 5 years later half my class were now type 2 diabetics from not burning off heavy meals.

If that's caught on a physical for a promotion or return to work after being out 21 days sick or from an injury, then you'll be going for a medical every 6 months to a year.

Don't let the schedule / life adjustment get the better of you. Watch your health. Every aspect of it.

I forgot to add- same goes for blood pressure. They catch it high one time and you become a regular at the medical.

Watch what you at eat at night.

White castles & McDonald's $1 menu was my best friend for sometime.

The MTA called me back for the medical test today and said come in on the 14th at 7:30am. My dad took the message so in not 100% sure if 7:30 is the right time. Does anyone who went for medical remember what time they called you in for?

My uncle told me if you work for MTA and your sick it's better to go to work so they will send you home. Is that true or if your really sick call in sick instead?

If you're really sick stay home. If youre on probation bring in doctors lines. No sense in potentially getting sicker at work. Your co workers don't want to be subjected to whatever it is you have either...

7:30 sounds right, but in my opinion, it is a similar deal to when you initially went for the 1st drug test - the earlier you get there, you will get a smaller ticket number, which means that, if you wind up on medical hold or you're good to go, you could get out of there sooner rather than later.

I'm in the 41* also, I think as long as we pass the medical we should make it into the class on the 26th.

For the education section in the booklet do they want from highschool going forward or all the way to elementary?

No call back for medical yet .. I am thinking it might come some time next week. Been trying to eat a bit healthier etc so fingers crossed.

Finishing up that 21 booklet ..

Thanks for all the great info on this board

I went in for pre-employment on 9/28. From looking at a few posts on this page they are doing medical for people in the 400-420 list number range, probably some in the 380-400 list number range that aren't on the forum. I'm in the 480-500 list number range, the earliest they would probably call me would be the end of this week, or sometime next week. That also depends on the size of the 10/26 class if there is one. But I have a feeling if there is a class in December or January, I'll be in that one god willing. Remember drug tests for track are good for 90 days, so 12/28 would be the expiration date of the first drug test.

Yeah I was in that same class, yeah I was reading someone said there was a 10/26 class so I was thinking that class but you're right more likely a December of January Class

You should be getting a call soon. If ur lucky u will be in this upcoming class. I will let you know if I find out any info about a class after this one

I'm thinking there might be a 3rd back to back class. Winter will be rough this year, they will want as many hands as possible

Either way I'd be happy start trainning/work in the cooler months anyway, I've worked union roofing (commercial) for the last 13 years, and the worst is starting a job anywhere in the summer time, especially if you were laid off for a bit. Atleast with the fall/winter start you'll be well broken in for when the summer time heat returns. Even from looking at the conductor, and train operator class threads the average call back time is around 6-8 weeks from when the drug test was administered, and some have gotton the call sooner than that. Earliest would be next week for me, but I'm not expecting my phone to ring till atleast November.
