Ok so apparently they are gonna try to hire 500 track workers by the end of the year. They are gonna try and make the training shorter from 6 weeks down to 4 weeks. I can't speak for Bronx but if you pick Brooklyn for your training location you're gonna be digging out ties for the most part. Later tonight I'm gonna post specialist job titles and they're requirements to do them. When you pick your spot for your "x" job ask your supervisor for training for a dual rate. If they procrastinate go ask the superintendent. I also have a list of how the pick is done by seniority to give you an idea of what it's gonna be like. There's Around 2000 track workers in the system after our class but our seniority numbers are gonna move up as more people retire.

The split between Brooklyn and Bronx is determined by seniority... You will be given your seriority # before making your mini pick...

Dual rate positions are people who can do a specialist job in the event that the specialist is out sick on vacation ect. Then after you put some time in you can pick a specialist title but you can't jump from track worker to specialist without being a dual rate first. There is a job that I found out about recently called a wet saw operator. No special training just sign up and you can get it. They teach you on the job. It's a messy job you're cutting the ties out of the concrete but you do get full rate which is 35/hr

No, I believe the urinalysis this time is checking for protein or the like.

Yeah the second urine is an 11 strip test for things like glucose, ph level, and sugar etc. It's was a breeze getting through the 12 hr medical yesterday!. I got in at 7:05am and left at 7:35pm i would advise you bring lunch and breakfast --all's well though cause I'll be in orientation on 9/11. This forum is more than helpful. Thank you to all the contributors.

Lofty goals. They would have to average 125 track worker per month. Better for me if true. It would mean more jobs on the board when the general pick comes along.

You might do some random task here and there, but all training pretty much consist of digging out ballast and ties.

That's not how dual rate works. You have to pick/bid into a dual rate position to get training in that title.

They take a urine sample. I'm assuming it only tests for other drugs. Maybe alcohol. Idk. Just make sure you have all required documents and your paperwork is filled out completely with "N/A" in spaces where no info is needed and no gaps in your employment/unemployment history. I went in at 7am with 15 ppl ahead of me and was out by 11am. And when they send you to the lab, make sure you find the door that actually says "lab" on it, and use the timestamp machine on the table in front of the window for the document they give you right before you go to lab. Ppl that work there might not give you the best instruction/directions.

You'll need a Dr to sign off on you being fit for duty I'm guessing. Can you make an appointment?

Already did. Yes they tell you what they want written on the document you need for medical clearance. Besides that, the only test that seemed ridiculous is their breath test. Inhale deep and blow out as hard as you can. Never had to do that before for any physical.

That's actually a pretty standard test.
