Planned Subway Service Changes

Unless there is an error, the (F) runs only to Hoyt-Schermerhorn. Guess it will use the middle track between Clinton and Lafayette to turn around?...

Yes.

Even on the weekend? Makes more sense to run the (F) to Euclid Av and the (G) to CI during a weekend.

When the split happens on weekends (F) almost always goes to Euclid to replace the (C) .

Weekends it goes to Euclid.

Nights it discharges at Hoyt and relays on A5 at Lafayette Interlocking.

Ahh ok, the (F)  goes to Euclid while the (A) is express. But terminates at Hoyt when the (A) is local.

If only they could do the same thing to the (R) @ Queens Plaza when the (E) and (F) run local in Queens. :)

That little pocket track at Queens Plaza (D5) is honestly so important. With it we can get perfect B division gap train placement, better (E)(F)(R) frequencies on weekends, more flexible terminal options during disruptions...

Is it true that they don't want to turn (R) trains there just in case they need to park a disabled train there?

I certainly wouldn't be surprised. That's some classic 'use rare evils to justify quotidian ones' MTA logic...

Are all the switches on the east end of the pocket track fixed yet?

Last I heard one of them (forget which one) was OOS

I never understood why they stopped doing that overnight (F) to Lefferts.

Probably because it isn't particularly useful beyond increasing service on Fulton St. Whenever the (F) is diverted from the Culver line, the primary goal is to get riders from 6th Avenue to Hoyt-Schermerhorn where they can change over to the (G) running to Coney Island in lieu. The weekend runs to Euclid Av only occur because the other option would be to terminate at Hoyt-Schermerhorn, forcing the (A) to run local. That is not an issue during the overnight hours as the express tracks on Fulton St are empty at that time. While it's extremely beneficial for Fulton St riders by reducing wait times along the line, it serves no purpose in terms of the actual service change in place, hence why it isn't done any more.

I totally agree, especially your last sentence. To elaborate on said sentence, it basically overserves the Fulton St corridor for little reason. Overnight Fulton St service is okay with just the 20 minute headway with the (A) alone instead of a 10 minute headway with both the (A) and (F) combined. In general, subway ridership at night is never higher than during the day and evening hours. Basically, the agency is just trying to maintain the same service frequency levels just like they would on a regular non-GO weekend.

Yeah, they're all in service and have been for a while. In general, switches like that only stay out of service for a pretty short time.

Wait, if the (J) isnt out between Myrtle Av and Broadway Junction, then why is the (M) suspended?

Because of track replacement between metropolitan ave and myrtle ave. J trains are running normal service to Manhattan.

(M) trains will be suspended every weekend from Dec 8 to the last weekend of January because of track replacement and also other critical work that has to be done to prepare for the (L) train shutdown in april. The MTA released a press release on weekend work on the (J) and (M) that is related to the (L) train shutdown.

The latter one is going to be rough in particular as school re-starts for most kids on Wednesday 1/2.

Why not have the (D) simply run via the (F) to Coney Island during that closure (with either a shuttle between 9th Avenue and Coney Island OR having the (D) run straight through Coney Island between 9th Avenue and 205, running otherwise via the (F))?

Thankfully, I don’t have to deal with this as I drive to and from work.

Neither of those suggestions do anything aside from put the (D) on the Culver line. While it may seem like service changes occur only to piss off riders, they are in fact done with a purpose in mind. All your idea does is over-serve the Culver line. Also, running the (D) through Coney Island (NX) style just makes for a longer, and more delay-prone trip than the regular West End route. Besides, even if they wanted to run such a route, Brooklyn-bound (A) trains are sharing the Rutgers track all week due to ongoing track replacement.

Ah, didn't realize the latter with the (A).  I was clearly thinking of how to least PO riders.
